Dr. Mardis has been at the Washington University School of Medicine’s Genome Sequencing Center (GSC) since 1993, playing a pivotal role in the evaluation, optimization and application of novel sequencing instrumentation, chemistry and molecular biology. As Director of Technology Development, she helped develop automation and pipelines for sequencing the Human Genome. She currently orchestrates the GSC’s efforts to explore next generation sequencing technologies and transition them into the Center’s production sequencing efforts. She has a direct interest in non-human primate sequencing, SNP discovery and cDNA sequencing projects that are ongoing under NHGRI funding. Dr. Mardis serves on several NIH study sections and private scientific advisory boards.
Prior to joining the GSC, Dr. Mardis was a Senior Research Scientist at BioRad Laboratories in Hercules, CA. She holds a PhD in Biochemistry and Chemistry and a B.S. in Zoology from the University of Oklahoma.
