Une initiative canadienne a \u00e9t\u00e9 mise en branle pour comprendre et freiner la maladie, prot\u00e9ger les jeunes porcs et venir en aide \u00e0 l&rsquo;industrie porcine en Am\u00e9rique du Nord.<\/p>\n<p>La diarrh\u00e9e \u00e9pid\u00e9mique porcine est apparue pour la premi\u00e8re fois aux \u00c9tats-Unis en avril 2013 et au Canada en janvier 2014. Depuis la d\u00e9couverte de la maladie aux \u00c9tats-Unis, au moins 8 millions de porcs ont perdu la vie. Jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 pr\u00e9sent, plus de 70 cas ont \u00e9t\u00e9 signal\u00e9s au Canada. La maladie a \u00e9t\u00e9 observ\u00e9e \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00cele-du-Prince-\u00c9douard, en Ontario, au Qu\u00e9bec et au Manitoba.<\/p>\n<p>Voyant dans la g\u00e9nomique une fa\u00e7on de contrer la menace, Genome Alberta a d\u00e9cid\u00e9 d&rsquo;\u00e9tablir un plan et de trouver le financement n\u00e9cessaire. La collaboration qui en a d\u00e9coul\u00e9 est porteuse d&rsquo;espoir pour la recherche sur le virus de la DEP et pour l&rsquo;industrie porcine.<\/p>\n<p>Les partenaires financiers comprennent Genome Alberta, l&rsquo;Alberta Livestock and Meat Agency, Genome Canada, le minist\u00e8re de l&rsquo;Agriculture, de l&rsquo;Alimentation et des Affaires rurales de l&rsquo;Ontario, le minist\u00e8re de l&rsquo;Agriculture de la Saskatchewan, l&rsquo;Agence canadienne d&rsquo;inspection des aliments, l&rsquo;Ontario Genomics Institute et G\u00e9nome Qu\u00e9bec. Ils sont heureux d&rsquo;annoncer le financement de trois nouveaux projets de recherche visant \u00e0 lutter contre l&rsquo;\u00e9closion de DEP.<\/p>\n<p>Mise au point d&rsquo;un vaccin \u00e0 virus vivant modifi\u00e9 de nouvelle g\u00e9n\u00e9ration contre le virus de la DEP produit par g\u00e9n\u00e9tique inverse (projet men\u00e9 par VIDO-InterVac \u00e0 l&rsquo;Universit\u00e9 de la Saskatchewan)<\/p>\n<p>Diagnostic mol\u00e9culaire am\u00e9lior\u00e9 et validation de la r\u00e9sistance g\u00e9n\u00e9tique au virus de la DEP chez les porcs (projet men\u00e9 par l&rsquo;Universit\u00e9 de la Saskatchewan et le Centre national des maladies animales exotiques)<\/p>\n<p>Utilisation de nouvelles mol\u00e9cules en association avec des \u00e9preuves quantitatives PCR en temps r\u00e9el pour diff\u00e9rencier les particules infectieuses et non infectieuses du virus de la DEP (projet men\u00e9 par la Facult\u00e9 de m\u00e9decine v\u00e9t\u00e9rinaire de l&rsquo;Universit\u00e9 de Montr\u00e9al)<\/p>\n<p>Reconnaissant le r\u00f4le que peut jouer la technologie g\u00e9nomique dans la lutte contre l&rsquo;\u00e9closion de DEP, les partenaires ayant contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 l&rsquo;enveloppe budg\u00e9taire de 650 000 $ ont lanc\u00e9 une demande de propositions et form\u00e9 une \u00e9quipe internationale de pairs examinateurs charg\u00e9e de formuler des recommandations quant aux projets \u00e0 financer. Voil\u00e0 un bel exemple qui illustre comment le milieu canadien de la recherche et les bailleurs de fonds peuvent unir leurs efforts pour s&rsquo;attaquer \u00e0 des probl\u00e8mes pratiques imm\u00e9diats.<\/p>\n<p>Cette initiative n&rsquo;aurait pu voir le jour sans l&rsquo;engagement des bailleurs de fonds participants.
