Le Canada doit consid\u00e9rablement accro\u00eetre sa production agricole pour r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 l\u2019augmentation de la demande et compenser les diminutions pr\u00e9vues des rendements de culture dans les pays tropicaux et subtropicaux. Pour ce, il faudra acc\u00e9l\u00e9rer la s\u00e9lection v\u00e9g\u00e9tale au Canada, afin de d\u00e9velopper des vari\u00e9t\u00e9s \u00e0 haut rendement, adapt\u00e9es au climat et \u00ab&nbsp;respectueuses de la plan\u00e8te&nbsp;\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>Les donn\u00e9es g\u00e9nomiques actuelles sur les cultures se multiplient rapidement, mais la capacit\u00e9 des s\u00e9lectionneurs d\u2019utiliser facilement et d&rsquo;exploiter les donn\u00e9es pour mettre au point de nouvelles vari\u00e9t\u00e9s culturales ne suit pas la cadence. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.divseek.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DivSeek<\/a> est une initiative internationale qui vise \u00e0 acc\u00e9l\u00e9rer la s\u00e9lection v\u00e9g\u00e9tale en mobilisant la diversit\u00e9 g\u00e9n\u00e9tique des collections vivantes et des banques de graines du monde (\u00ab&nbsp;banques g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques&nbsp;\u00bb). Pour \u00eatre efficace, il faut une base de donn\u00e9es unifi\u00e9e, coordonn\u00e9e et coh\u00e9sive qui permette aux s\u00e9lectionneurs et aux agriculteurs d\u2019avoir acc\u00e8s \u00e0 ces donn\u00e9es importantes.<\/p>\n<p>G\u00e9nome Canada, Genome British Columbia et Genome Prairie collaborent au financement de la cr\u00e9ation d\u2019une ressource en bio-informatique en ligne, DivSeek Canada, h\u00e9berg\u00e9e dans le syst\u00e8me informatique de pointe et d\u2019avant-garde de Calculs Canada.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab&nbsp;Cet investissement est d\u2019importance internationale et l\u2019apog\u00e9e d\u2019ann\u00e9es de collaboration&nbsp;\u00bb, dit Catalina Lopez Correa, Ph.&nbsp;D., dirigeante scientifique principale et vice-pr\u00e9sidente des Secteurs \u00e0 Genome BC. \u00ab&nbsp;DivSeek Canada fera en sorte que ces ressources seront disponibles et accessibles pour que partout dans le monde, les gens puissent les utiliser pour mettre au point des cultures meilleures, plus r\u00e9sistantes.&nbsp;\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab&nbsp;La valeur de ce projet pour l&rsquo;industrie agricole canadienne ne peut \u00eatre sous-estim\u00e9e. Le projet mettra au point des ressources cl\u00e9s dont les s\u00e9lectionneurs et les agriculteurs canadiens ont besoin&nbsp;\u00bb, a dit Marc LePage, pr\u00e9sident et chef de la direction de G\u00e9nome Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Dirig\u00e9 par Loren Rieseberg, Ph.&nbsp;D., de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de la Colombie-Britannique et men\u00e9 par une \u00e9quipe dont les membres proviennent de la Colombie-Britannique, de la Saskatchewan, du Manitoba et de l\u2019Ontario, ce projet produira des outils int\u00e9gr\u00e9s conviviaux, adapt\u00e9s pour les s\u00e9lectionneurs du tournesol, du lin et des lentilles, initialement en projet de d\u00e9monstration, mais qui pourra par la suite \u00eatre \u00e9tendu \u00e0 d&rsquo;autres cultures canadiennes poss\u00e9dant d\u2019importantes ressources g\u00e9nomiques.<\/p>\n<p>Cet investissement est \u00e9valu\u00e9 \u00e0 quelque 800&nbsp;000&nbsp;$ et a \u00e9t\u00e9 financ\u00e9 dans le cadre du programme des enjeux \u00e9mergents de G\u00e9nome Canada.
