La d\u00e9gradation du m\u00e9tal \u2013 ou corrosion \u2013 est la principale cause des incidents li\u00e9s aux pipelines, car elle provoque environ 35 % des fuites des pipelines et co\u00fbte annuellement 2,5 billions de dollars dans le monde.<\/p>\n<p>Cette corrosion d\u00e9pend d\u2019un ensemble de facteurs internes et externes, mais la corrosion influenc\u00e9e par les microorganismes (CIMO) en repr\u00e9sente 20 %. La g\u00e9nomique aide l\u2019industrie \u00e0 lutter contre la corrosion microbienne par une meilleure compr\u00e9hension, att\u00e9nuation et gestion du processus de CIMO.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u00ab La collaboration permanente des chercheurs et de l\u2019industrie dans ce projet facilitera la transformation de nos r\u00e9sultats de recherche en pratiques concr\u00e8tes de gestion de la corrosion influenc\u00e9e par les microorganismes dans les activit\u00e9s p\u00e9troli\u00e8res et gazi\u00e8res. \u00bb\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8211; Lisa Gieg, Ph. D., professeure agr\u00e9g\u00e9e, D\u00e9partement des sciences biologiques \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Calgary<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Lisa Gieg, professeure agr\u00e9g\u00e9e au D\u00e9partement des sciences biologiques de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Calgary, John Wolodko, professeur agr\u00e9g\u00e9 et pr\u00e9sident strat\u00e9gique d\u2019Alberta Innovates pour les biomat\u00e9riaux et mat\u00e9riaux industriels \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 d\u2019Alberta, de m\u00eame que Faisal Khan, professeur et titulaire de la chaire de recherche Vale, S\u00e9curit\u00e9 des processus et g\u00e9nie des risques, de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Memorial dirigent le projet financ\u00e9 par G\u00e9nome Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Les directeurs du projet et leur \u00e9quipe interdisciplinaire pourront enrayer les tendances \u00e0 la d\u00e9gradation caus\u00e9e par certains microbes et des chimies particuli\u00e8res qui cr\u00e9ent la corrosion. Gr\u00e2ce au projet, les utilisateurs finaux de l\u2019industrie pourront mieux pr\u00e9voir o\u00f9 la corrosion microbienne se manifestera. La corrosion des pipelines est un th\u00e8me important de la recherche, mais les travaux porteront aussi sur tous les points de contact entre le p\u00e9trole et l\u2019acier dans l\u2019extraction, la production et le traitement pour accro\u00eetre la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 dans ce secteur d\u2019activit\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019\u00e9quipe de projet examine \u00e9galement des questions qui se posent au carrefour de la g\u00e9nomique et de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 pour \u00e9viter les cons\u00e9quences involontaires, cultiver les r\u00e9ussites et contribuer au r\u00f4le de chef de file que joue le Canada dans la bio\u00e9conomie mondiale du XXIe si\u00e8cle. L\u2019\u00e9quipe \u00e9tudie en particulier la pr\u00e9valence de la CIMO au Canada et \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tranger, la multidisciplinarit\u00e9 de la recherche sur le sujet, de m\u00eame que l\u2019application et l\u2019adoption de nouvelles connaissances et technologies dans le secteur p\u00e9trolier et gazier.<\/p>\n<p>Les principaux r\u00e9sultats du projet serviront \u00e0 recommander des lignes directrices et des pratiques exemplaires \u00e0 l\u2019industrie p\u00e9troli\u00e8re et gazi\u00e8re canadienne et internationale. \u00ab Au bout du compte, le projet d\u00e9terminera les indicateurs de rendement cl\u00e9s, n\u00e9cessaires \u00e0 la mod\u00e9lisation et \u00e0 la surveillance de la corrosion influenc\u00e9e par les microorganismes, de m\u00eame qu\u2019\u00e0 l\u2019optimisation des strat\u00e9gies de traitement gr\u00e2ce auxquelles pr\u00e9venir le probl\u00e8me ou le corriger \u00bb, a dit Ken Wunch, Ph. D., responsable de la plateforme technologique en \u00e9nergie de Dow Microbial Control.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Le projet de 7,9 millions de dollars, intitul\u00e9 Gestion de la corrosion microbienne dans la production p\u00e9troli\u00e8re extrac\u00f4ti\u00e8re et continentale au Canada, est une collaboration de Genome Alberta, de Genome Atlantic et d\u2019autres partenaires. Lanc\u00e9 en janvier 2017, il est l\u2019un des 13 projets financ\u00e9s par G\u00e9nome Canada dans le cadre du Concours 2015 : Projets de recherche appliqu\u00e9e \u00e0 grande \u00e9chelle \u2013 Les ressources naturelles et l\u2019environnement : les solutions g\u00e9nomiques aux d\u00e9fis sectoriels.
