Pour les agriculteurs, ce m\u00eame bl\u00e9 repr\u00e9sente une industrie de quatre milliards de dollars par ann\u00e9e et pour les chercheurs en g\u00e9nomique, un champ d\u2019exploration dont la cartographie commence \u00e0 peine.<\/p>\n<p>Les chercheurs canadiens font partie d\u2019une \u00e9quipe internationale qui, en juillet 2014, a publi\u00e9 la premi\u00e8re \u00e9bauche de s\u00e9quence bas\u00e9e sur les chromosomes du g\u00e9nome du bl\u00e9, une perc\u00e9e qui procurera aux s\u00e9lectionneurs de nouvelles connaissances fort utiles dans leur qu\u00eate de vari\u00e9t\u00e9s qui pourront r\u00e9pondre aux exigences de la croissance de la population mondiale et des changements climatiques, dont une augmentation pr\u00e9vue de 70 % de la demande alimentaire mondiale d\u2019ici 2050.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab La publication d\u2019une \u00e9bauche bas\u00e9e sur les chromosomes de la s\u00e9quence du g\u00e9nome du bl\u00e9 acc\u00e9l\u00e9rera la d\u00e9couverte de g\u00e8nes du bl\u00e9 et permettra de mettre au point des outils qui am\u00e9lioreront la s\u00e9lection de caract\u00e9ristiques tr\u00e8s complexes telles que le rendement, la r\u00e9sistance aux insectes et \u00e0 la maladie et la qualit\u00e9 pour l\u2019utilisation ultime \u00bb, dit M. Curtis Pozniak, professeur \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de la Saskatchewan et codirecteur du CTAG (Canadian Triticum Advancement through Genomics \u2013 Am\u00e9lioration du bl\u00e9 canadien au moyen de la g\u00e9nomique), un projet pluriannuel de plusieurs millions de dollars financ\u00e9 par G\u00e9nome Canada, Genome Prairie et d\u2019autres qui se concentrent sur le s\u00e9quen\u00e7age du g\u00e9nome du bl\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>M. Pozniak et son \u00e9quipe font partie de l\u2019International Wheat Genome Sequencing Consortium (IWGSC \u2013 Consortium international de s\u00e9quen\u00e7age du g\u00e9nome du bl\u00e9), qui proc\u00e8de au s\u00e9quen\u00e7age de chacun des 21 chromosomes du bl\u00e9 commun.<\/p>\n<p>Le Consortium auquel participent plus de 1 000 chercheurs dans le monde a pour but de r\u00e9aliser une<br \/>\n\u00ab s\u00e9quence de r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00bb ou la cartographie compl\u00e8te du g\u00e9nome du bl\u00e9, cinq fois plus grand que le g\u00e9nome humain. Soixante-quinze mille g\u00e8nes ont d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9t\u00e9 cartographi\u00e9s. En m\u00eame temps, le Crop Development Centre de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de la Saskatchewan dirige une \u00e9quipe multidisciplinaire nationale qui utilise la technologie de s\u00e9quen\u00e7age de l\u2019ADN la plus avanc\u00e9e pour mettre au point les outils g\u00e9nomiques qui serviront \u00e0 la s\u00e9lection assist\u00e9e par marqueurs.<\/p>\n<p>Ce type de s\u00e9lection indique les variations g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques entre les membres d\u2019une m\u00eame esp\u00e8ce.
