La COVID-19 a mis au jour les aspects vuln\u00e9rables des cha\u00eenes d\u2019approvisionnement alimentaire, notamment l\u2019importation de fruits et l\u00e9gumes frais des \u00c9tats-Unis, pour fournir \u00e0 la population canadienne des aliments nutritifs et diversifi\u00e9s. Les tomates, les poivrons et les concombres repr\u00e9sentent des ventes annuelles de plus de un milliard de dollars pour l\u2019industrie canadienne des l\u00e9gumes de serre. Ces l\u00e9gumes sont sensibles \u00e0 de nombreuses maladies qui menacent les cultures et diminuent les profits des producteurs dont les pertes annuelles sont estim\u00e9es \u00e0 200 millions de dollars. Le Vineland Research and Innovation Centre m\u00e8ne un projet financ\u00e9 par G\u00e9nome Canada dans le cadre duquel il utilise des <a href=\"https:\/\/www.genomecanada.ca\/fr\/la-genomique-au-service-dune-industrie-concurrentielle-des-legumes-de-serre\">technologies g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques \u00e9prouv\u00e9es pour am\u00e9liorer la r\u00e9sistance des l\u00e9gumes aux maladies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Le projet vise \u00e0 d\u00e9velopper de nouvelles vari\u00e9t\u00e9s commerciales plus r\u00e9sistantes aux maladies pour l\u2019industrie canadienne des l\u00e9gumes de serre, ce qui am\u00e9liorera la comp\u00e9titivit\u00e9 de l\u2019industrie, cr\u00e9era de la croissance \u00e9conomique, augmentera les exportations et r\u00e9duira la concurrence des importations, et accro\u00eetra la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 alimentaire pour la population canadienne. Selon des r\u00e9sultats r\u00e9cents du projet, la r\u00e9sistance aux maladies s est am\u00e9lior\u00e9e de 25 \u00e0 30 %. Une entreprise d\u00e9riv\u00e9e de ce projet qui se sp\u00e9cialise dans le d\u00e9veloppement de caract\u00e8res et de services en g\u00e9nomique, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.platformgenetics.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Platform Genetics Inc.<\/a>, r\u00e9pond aux besoins des entreprises de semences et aux programmes de s\u00e9lection v\u00e9g\u00e9tale du secteur public.<\/p>\n<p><em>En partenariat avec Ontario Genomics<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>S\u2019assurer d\u2019un approvisionnement alimentaire s\u00fbr et durable pour les Canadiens fait partie indispensable de la mission.
