C\u2019est le d\u00e9fi que rel\u00e8ve une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 internationale de biotechnologie agricole renomm\u00e9e et un chercheur de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de l\u2019Alberta.<\/p>\n<p>Le secteur canadien de la culture de soya cro\u00eet en importance et en valeur. L\u2019huile de soya, qui constitue g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement quelque 18 \u00e0 20 % de sa graine, est de plus en plus utilis\u00e9e comme huile de cuisson, dans les aliments transform\u00e9s ou \u00e0 des fins industrielles. Une plus forte teneur en huile de soya se traduira par des revenus sup\u00e9rieurs pour les agriculteurs, les entreprises de semences et les industries de transformation. Selon les estimations des experts, la g\u00e9nomique pourrait augmenter jusqu\u2019\u00e0 concurrence de 25 % la teneur en huile des graines de soya. Une perc\u00e9e de cette envergure, ont\u2010ils dit, pourrait permettre d\u2019obtenir un quart du march\u00e9 mondial grandissant des graines de soya dont la valeur atteint actuellement 4,5 milliards de dollars par ann\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<p>En prenant comme point de d\u00e9part les r\u00e9sultats de travaux du chercheur Randall Weselake de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de l\u2019Alberta, l\u2019\u00e9quipe de ce projet utilisera l\u2019analyse g\u00e9nomique pour isoler des cibles dans les traits caract\u00e9ristiques des graines de soya qui pourraient stimuler une meilleure production d\u2019huile sans pour autant nuire \u00e0 la teneur en prot\u00e9ines. Arcadia Biosciences, une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 de technologie agricole situ\u00e9e aux \u00c9tats\u2010Unis, mettra \u00e0 profit des outils et des ressources g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques exclusifs non g\u00e9n\u00e9tiquement modifi\u00e9s pour valider rapidement la ou les meilleures cibles et dirigera la commercialisation des r\u00e9sultats, partout en Am\u00e9rique du Nord et en Am\u00e9rique du Sud.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019am\u00e9lioration du rendement des graines, dans le cas du secteur agricole canadien de la culture de soya, pourrait, selon les pr\u00e9visions, g\u00e9n\u00e9rer jusqu\u2019\u00e0 68 millions de dollars en valeur annuelle additionnelle.
