Une approche g\u00e9nomique propos\u00e9e pour l\u2019\u00e9valuation des poumons des donneurs pourrait maintenant sauver des milliers de vies tout en r\u00e9duisant les co\u00fbts des soins de sant\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Le projet, dirig\u00e9 par le D<sup>r <\/sup>Shaf Keshavjee du R\u00e9seau universitaire de la sant\u00e9 de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Toronto, en collaboration avec l\u2019entreprise biotechnologique am\u00e9ricaine Lung Bioengineering Inc., filiale d\u2019United Therapeutics Corp., vise \u00e0 mettre au point un test diagnostique bas\u00e9 sur la g\u00e9nomique pour d\u00e9terminer si le poumon provenant d\u2019un donneur r\u00e9pond aux exigences de la transplantation. Pour le moment, cette \u00e9valuation est fond\u00e9e sur des \u00e9valuations physiologiques seulement. Pour cette raison, moins de 15 % des poumons, les plus en sant\u00e9, sont jug\u00e9s aptes \u00e0 la transplantation, ce qui laisse d\u2019innombrables poumons \u00ab marginaux \u00bb inutilis\u00e9s qui pourraient aussi sauver des vies. Une analyse fond\u00e9e sur la g\u00e9nomique pourrait accro\u00eetre le pourcentage de poumons aptes \u00e0 la transplantation \u00e0 pr\u00e8s de 50 %, ce qui ferait du coup augmenter le nombre de patients qui re\u00e7oivent cette intervention vitale. Au moyen de trousses de test diagnostique, les conditions des poumons de donneurs pourraient \u00eatre surveill\u00e9es avec pr\u00e9cision par des analyses des biomarqueurs. Des biomarqueurs qui peuvent pr\u00e9dire la qualit\u00e9 des poumons ont d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9t\u00e9 isol\u00e9s sous la direction du D<sup>r<\/sup> Keshavjee. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 ces r\u00e9sultats, cette nouvelle initiative aboutira \u00e0 la cr\u00e9ation d\u2019outils de diagnostic rapide qui pourraient \u00eatre utilis\u00e9s dans les centres o\u00f9 se pratiquent des greffes partout dans le monde.<\/p>\n<p>La premi\u00e8re greffe de poumon r\u00e9ussie en clinique dans le monde a eu lieu \u00e0 l\u2019H\u00f4pital g\u00e9n\u00e9ral de Toronto en 1983. Le projet de g\u00e9nomique d\u2019aujourd\u2019hui pourrait contribuer \u00e0 renforcer encore plus le leadership mondial du Canada dans ce secteur m\u00e9dical de haute technologie.
