Plus les chercheurs en savent sur les g\u00e8nes qui sont \u00e0 la base des maladies, plus ils sont \u00e0 m\u00eame de concevoir intelligemment des traitements. Notre groupe de recherche poss\u00e8de des d\u00e9cennies d\u2019exp\u00e9rience dans l\u2019\u00e9tude des hormones, en particulier celles qu\u2019on appelle hormones st\u00e9ro\u00efdes qui r\u00e9gulent un grand nombre des fonctions du corps, et des maladies qui peuvent en d\u00e9couler lorsque ces processus fonctionnent mal.<\/p>\n<p>Nous avons \u00e9tudi\u00e9 un ensemble d\u2019hormones st\u00e9ro\u00efdes qui sont en partie responsables de certaines maladies humaines les plus graves, et nous avons utilis\u00e9 des souris en substitution exp\u00e9rimentale des humains. Nous avons utilis\u00e9 les m\u00e9thodes de la g\u00e9nomique pour trouver et \u00e9tudier des groupes de g\u00e8nes r\u00e9gul\u00e9s dans diff\u00e9rents tissus par plusieurs hormones communes dont la testost\u00e9rone (hormone m\u00e2le), l\u2019estrog\u00e8ne (hormone femelle), l\u2019aldost\u00e9rone (qui intervient dans la r\u00e9gulation du foie), le cortisol (qui agit sur de nombreuses fonctions du corps) et d\u2019autres. Nous appelons ces \u00e9tudes ATLAS des fonctions st\u00e9ro\u00efdiennes.<\/p>\n<p>Nous avons obtenu de nouvelles donn\u00e9es utiles sur 750 g\u00e8nes dont l\u2019action est influenc\u00e9e par les hormones st\u00e9ro\u00efdes. Un grand nombre d\u2019entre eux correspondent \u00e0 des g\u00e8nes de maladies et certains sont associ\u00e9s \u00e0 certains types de cancer. Nous avons utilis\u00e9 des m\u00e9thodes de la g\u00e9nomique, dont les puces \u00e0 ADN, le silen\u00e7age g\u00e9nique, l\u2019identification \u00e0 grande \u00e9chelle des prot\u00e9ines (prot\u00e9omique), et des microscopes automatis\u00e9s pour \u00e9tudier en d\u00e9tail ces g\u00e8nes.
