La biologie int\u00e9grative r\u00e9v\u00e8le cependant que les g\u00e8nes ne fonctionnent pas individuellement, mais en regroupements physiques ou fonctionnels pour ex\u00e9cuter leurs fonctions.<\/p>\n<p>M<sup>me<\/sup> Brenda Andrews est directrice du Terrence Donnelly Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Toronto, et directrice du projet Biologie int\u00e9grative. Selon M<sup>me<\/sup> Andrews, les g\u00e8nes remplissent leurs fonctions non pas individuellement, mais collectivement ou en groupes. \u00c0 leur tour, ces groupes de g\u00e8nes interagissent pour permettre \u00e0 la cellule de fonctionner et de r\u00e9agir \u00e0 son environnement. La biologie int\u00e9grative r\u00e9v\u00e8le sa valeur dans le fait que certains m\u00e9dicaments sont hautement sp\u00e9cifiques et qu\u2019ils se lient \u00e0 une prot\u00e9ine et \u00e0 une prot\u00e9ine seulement. Ils peuvent n\u00e9anmoins avoir des effets impr\u00e9vus et ind\u00e9sirables lorsqu\u2019ils influencent des groupes de g\u00e8nes.<\/p>\n<p>Le projet dirig\u00e9 par Mme Andrews \u00e9laborera une vue int\u00e9gr\u00e9e de Saccharomyces cerevisiae (levure de boulanger) \u2013 un organisme mod\u00e8le important qui a conserv\u00e9 un grand nombre des m\u00eames g\u00e8nes et voies que les humains et qui se pr\u00eate bien \u00e0 l\u2019exp\u00e9rimentation. En examinant les cellules et les sous\u00ad\u00e9l\u00e9ments fonctionnels de la levure de boulanger, l\u2019\u00e9quipe du projet pr\u00e9voit obtenir des droits de propri\u00e9t\u00e9 intellectuelle pr\u00e9cieux.
