L\u2019\u00e9tude des acides nucl\u00e9iques permet aux chercheurs d\u2019en apprendre beaucoup sur les maladies g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques humaines, sur les virus et les microorganismes qui causent les maladies. Les acides nucl\u00e9iques sont \u00e9galement importants dans les applications en environnement, en d\u00e9fense, dans les domaines v\u00e9t\u00e9rinaire et agricole. Pour toutes ces \u00e9tudes, les chercheurs doivent mesurer avec beaucoup d\u2019exactitude la quantit\u00e9 d\u2019acides nucl\u00e9iques dans un \u00e9chantillon. Les m\u00e9thodes actuelles ont des lacunes et nous devons en mettre au point de nouvelles qui sont moins limit\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<p>Ce projet devait \u00e9laborer un nouveau capteur d\u2019acide nucl\u00e9ique (\u00ab biocapteur \u00bb) qui puisse \u00eatre r\u00e9utilis\u00e9, solide, rapide, exact, s\u00e9lectif, sensible et peu co\u00fbteux. Nous avons abord\u00e9 cet objectif en r\u00e9unissant une \u00e9quipe compos\u00e9e de g\u00e9n\u00e9ticiens en m\u00e9decine, de chimistes, de biologistes mol\u00e9culaires, d\u2019ing\u00e9nieurs et d\u2019informaticiens qui ont collabor\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9laboration d\u2019un nouvel instrument.<\/p>\n<p>Cet instrument est fond\u00e9 sur l\u2019id\u00e9e que certaines sondes chimiques peuvent d\u00e9tecter des longueurs pr\u00e9cises d\u2019ADN ou d\u2019ARN lorsqu\u2019elles sont fix\u00e9es \u00e0 la surface de fibres optiques. Lorsque l\u2019ADN ou l\u2019ARN \u00e0 d\u00e9tecter est \u00e9tiquet\u00e9 par une substance lumineuse et se fixe \u00e0 la fibre optique, il \u00e9met de la lumi\u00e8re qui voyage dans la fibre et peut \u00eatre mesur\u00e9e tr\u00e8s exactement. Chaque mesure ne n\u00e9cessite que quelques minutes et le biocapteur peut \u00eatre r\u00e9utilis\u00e9 au moins une centaine de fois.
