La prochaine \u00e9tape consistera \u00e0 faire de cette multitude de donn\u00e9es des connaissances utiles qui pourront \u00eatre appliqu\u00e9es \u00e0 des progr\u00e8s m\u00e9dicaux et biologiques. Ce type de recherche est appel\u00e9 \u00ab g\u00e9nomique fonctionnelle \u00bb et il vise \u00e0 comprendre comment l\u2019information g\u00e9n\u00e9tique cod\u00e9e dans l\u2019ADN dirige tout le fonctionnement d\u2019un organisme vivant.<\/p>\n<p>Il est bien connu que les progr\u00e8s dans les nouveaux domaines de la science, comme la g\u00e9nomique fonctionnelle, d\u00e9pendent des nouvelles technologies. Notre recherche visait \u00e0 \u00e9laborer de nouvelles techniques et de nouveaux instruments de mesure en g\u00e9nomique fonctionnelle, et \u00e0 les appliquer \u00e0 la recherche fondamentale et aux \u00e9tudes cliniques. Nous nous sommes concentr\u00e9s sur une nouvelle technologie appel\u00e9e puce \u00e0 ADN. Il s\u2019agit d\u2019une m\u00e9thode de mesure d\u2019une grande exactitude et d\u2019une grande sensibilit\u00e9, le r\u00e9sultat de chaque g\u00e8ne individuel dans un organisme, quel qu\u2019il soit. Pour am\u00e9liorer cette technologie, nous avons r\u00e9uni une \u00e9quipe d\u2019experts en biologie, en informatique, en science des ordinateurs et en g\u00e9nie pour produire une des plus grosses puces \u00e0 ADN du monde, de m\u00eame que des programmes d\u2019analyse au R\u00e9seau universitaire de la sant\u00e9. Nos r\u00e9sultats techniques pour les puces \u00e0 ADN comprennent ce qui suit : miniaturisation visant \u00e0 r\u00e9duire le co\u00fbt et la complexit\u00e9 des exp\u00e9riences; automatisation de la fabrication des puces; nouveaux robots; rapidit\u00e9 accrue de la collecte de donn\u00e9es et meilleure fiabilit\u00e9 des r\u00e9sultats. L\u2019un de nos robots est actuellement commercialis\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Nous avons mis au point de meilleures puces par l\u2019utilisation d\u2019algorithmes computationnels, un stockage et une r\u00e9cup\u00e9ration plus efficaces des donn\u00e9es des exp\u00e9riences men\u00e9es avec les puces \u00e0 ADN, et de meilleurs moyens de comparer nos donn\u00e9es \u00e0 celles d\u2019autres chercheurs dans le monde. Nous avons commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 utiliser les puces pour \u00e9tudier l\u2019expression des g\u00e8nes dans la leuc\u00e9mie chez les enfants, le cancer de l\u2019ovaire et de la prostate, le cancer du foie et les cardiopathies.
