Comme des mod\u00e8les de primates non humains sont g\u00e9n\u00e9tiquement proches des humains, ils peuvent aider \u00e0 \u00e9lucider des comportements humains et des maladies complexes que les mod\u00e8les rongeurs ne peuvent pas r\u00e9v\u00e9ler. Le singe vervet (<em>Cercopithecus aethiops<\/em>), est une esp\u00e8ce non menac\u00e9e de l\u2019Afrique du Sud et un mod\u00e8le qui se pr\u00eate bien \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tude des processus neurologiques.<\/p>\n<p>M. Ken Dewar, chercheur principal au Centre d\u2019innovation de G\u00e9nome Qu\u00e9bec et de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 McGill et professeur adjoint au D\u00e9partement de g\u00e9n\u00e9tique humaine \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 McGill, dirige le projet Carte g\u00e9n\u00e9tique et carte de restriction int\u00e9gr\u00e9es du singe vervet, <em>Cercopithecus aethiops<\/em>. L\u2019\u00e9quipe du projet dressera une carte de restriction compl\u00e8te de tout le g\u00e9nome de <em>Cercopithecus aethiops<\/em>, ce qui approfondira les connaissances actuelles bas\u00e9es sur la cartographie g\u00e9n\u00e9tique (localisation de la position de g\u00e8nes donn\u00e9s sur les chromosomes), le g\u00e9notypage (tests des variations g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques) et les colonies de g\u00e9n\u00e9alogie contr\u00f4l\u00e9e (populations uniques et sp\u00e9cialement \u00e9lev\u00e9es de singes vervets).<\/p>\n<p>Le projet permettra en outre d\u2019associer les marqueurs g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques \u00e0 des positions chromosomiques et au contenu g\u00e9n\u00e9tique environnant. Les chercheurs pourront aussi utiliser les ressources de la carte de restriction pour identifier les g\u00e8nes candidats qui sous\u00adtendent les processus g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques et mettre au point de nouveaux marqueurs pour la cartographie g\u00e9n\u00e9tique d\u00e9taill\u00e9e des mutations et des traits \u00e9tudi\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p>Le projet de M. Dewar servira \u00e0 mieux comprendre les processus complexes comme le neurod\u00e9veloppement et la d\u00e9gradation neurologique, de m\u00eame que des maladies humaines comme la maladie de Parkinson et la toxicomanie. En comparant la carte du g\u00e9nome du singe vervet et les cartes du g\u00e9nome des humains, des chimpanz\u00e9s et du singe rh\u00e9sus, l\u2019\u00e9quipe du projet d\u00e9terminera \u00e9galement des r\u00e9gions o\u00f9 il se produit des r\u00e9arrangements g\u00e9nomiques, pour ainsi mieux comprendre les m\u00e9canismes qui contribuent \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9volution du g\u00e9nome.<\/p>\n<p>Les techniques mises au point dans le cadre de ce projet permettront aux chercheurs canadiens de mener des \u00e9tudes de g\u00e9nomique analogues pour d\u2019autres esp\u00e8ces v\u00e9g\u00e9tales et animales importantes sur les plans de la m\u00e9decine, de l\u2019agriculture et de l\u2019\u00e9volution.
