Il faut transformer cette information en connaissances si nous voulons qu\u2019elle serve dans d\u2019autres \u00e9tudes et des applications pratiques. Elle doit \u00eatre structur\u00e9e en bases de donn\u00e9es, analys\u00e9e de nombreuses mani\u00e8res et par dessus tout, mise \u00e0 la disposition des chercheurs, o\u00f9 qu\u2019ils soient.<\/p>\n<p>Dans notre projet, nous cr\u00e9ons des bases de donn\u00e9es sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9es qu\u2019utilisent les chercheurs en g\u00e9nomique du monde entier. La premi\u00e8re base de donn\u00e9es, appel\u00e9e BIND, renferme des donn\u00e9es sur plus de 200 000 interactions prot\u00e9ines-ADN, les processus biologiques qui font fonctionner les cellules vivantes et qui sont indispensables \u00e0 la recherche en biologie et en m\u00e9decine. La deuxi\u00e8me base de donn\u00e9es, appel\u00e9e SMID, d\u00e9crit en d\u00e9tail plus de 13 millions de sites de liaison chimique sur les mol\u00e9cules prot\u00e9iques; ces sites peuvent servir \u00e0 cibler des applications m\u00e9dicales et industrielles de produits chimiques qui modifient les prot\u00e9ines qui interviennent dans les processus biologiques.<\/p>\n<p>Une troisi\u00e8me base de donn\u00e9es, appel\u00e9e SeqHound, renferme de l\u2019information brute provenant du Projet du g\u00e9nome humain \u00e0 partir de laquelle nous avons construit les bases de donn\u00e9es BIND et SMID. Nous avons soigneusement pass\u00e9 au crible l\u2019information de ces bases de donn\u00e9es pour nous assurer de sa tr\u00e8s grande qualit\u00e9, un facteur essentiel \u00e0 la recherche. Nous avons \u00e9galement con\u00e7u un grand ensemble d\u2019outils logiciels qui permettent de tr\u00e8s nombreux types d\u2019analyse de l\u2019information contenue dans nos bases de donn\u00e9es. Des milliers de chercheurs biom\u00e9dicaux partout dans le monde utilisent nos bases de donn\u00e9es pour d\u00e9couvrir de nouveaux liens entre les g\u00e8nes et les prot\u00e9ines qui pourraient autrement passer inaper\u00e7us. On r\u00e9duit ainsi le co\u00fbt et le temps de recherche et on aboutit \u00e0 une meilleure compr\u00e9hension du fonctionnement des cellules.
