Cette contribution est \u00e9valu\u00e9e \u00e0 plus de 2 milliards de dollars au Canada et \u00e0 15 milliards de dollars aux \u00c9tats\u00ad-Unis. Au cours des quelques derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es, les apiculteurs nord- am\u00e9ricains ont perdu des colonies \u00e0 un rythme alarmant \u2013 environ trois fois la moyenne historique. Ces pertes de colonies s\u2019expliquent en grande partie par des maladies infectieuses qui ne touchent que les abeilles. M\u00eame s\u2019il est possible de ma\u00eetriser certaines de ces maladies \u00e0 l\u2019aide de pesticides, un grand nombre des bact\u00e9ries, des virus, des champignons et des acariens finissent par tol\u00e9rer ces produits chimiques. En outre, le public accepte moins les r\u00e9sidus chimiques dans ses aliments.<\/p>\n<p>Gr\u00e2ce au financement de G\u00e9nome Canada, des chercheurs mettent au point de nouveaux outils pour cibler les abeilles qui r\u00e9sistent aux maladies, de m\u00eame que de nouveaux traitements adapt\u00e9s aux agents pathog\u00e8nes qui les affectent. Il s\u2019agit de la premi\u00e8re mesure prise par l\u2019ensemble de l\u2019industrie pour enrayer le d\u00e9clin des abeilles domestiques. Une mise en \u0153uvre fructueuse aura des retomb\u00e9es de plus de 200 millions de dollars annuellement en raison de l\u2019augmentation du nombre d\u2019abeilles pour la pollinisation et de la production de miel. Les consommateurs b\u00e9n\u00e9ficieront \u00e9galement d\u2019une meilleure s\u00e9curit\u00e9 alimentaire.
