Dans le monde concurrentiel actuel, la capacit\u00e9 de nos secteurs agricole et forestier de rester en t\u00eate parmi les chefs de file internationaux d\u00e9pend de plus en plus des am\u00e9liorations g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques apport\u00e9es \u00e0 d\u2019importants types de plantes. Les types de plantes importantes sont tellement nombreux, comment choisir ceux qu\u2019il convient le mieux d\u2019\u00e9tudier? Une r\u00e9ponse \u00e9prouv\u00e9e \u00e0 cette question est la recherche sur une plante simple qui peut repr\u00e9senter toutes les autres.<\/p>\n<p>Nous \u2013 et d\u2019autres chercheurs en biologie v\u00e9g\u00e9tale dans le monde \u2013 avons choisi une plante appel\u00e9e Arabidopsis. Cette petite plante est l\u2019un des organismes les mieux \u00e9tudi\u00e9s sur le plan g\u00e9n\u00e9tique de tous les organismes et elle comporte de nombreuses similitudes avec des cultures importantes comme le riz, le bl\u00e9, le ma\u00efs et le canola. Nous avons mis au point certains des outils de base qui nous permettront, \u00e0 nous et \u00e0 d\u2019autres ailleurs dans le monde, d\u2019effectuer des travaux de recherche g\u00e9n\u00e9tique sur Arabidopsis. Nous acquerrons ainsi une compr\u00e9hension approfondie de nombreux aspects de la croissance des plantes qui seront importants pour les am\u00e9liorations g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques comme la tol\u00e9rance au sel et \u00e0 la s\u00e9cheresse, la r\u00e9sistance aux insectes nuisibles, une meilleure productivit\u00e9 et une teneur en prot\u00e9ine accrue.<\/p>\n<p>Nous avons \u00e9tabli trois types d\u2019instruments exp\u00e9rimentaux. Premi\u00e8rement, nous avons cr\u00e9\u00e9 plus de 10 000 mutations g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques diff\u00e9rentes \u00e0 l\u2019aide de m\u00e9thodes de pointe. Nous, et de nombreux autres, utiliserons ces mutations pour \u00e9tudier comment la croissance des plantes r\u00e9agit \u00e0 des conditions environnementales difficiles et quels sont les g\u00e8nes importants dans la survie des plantes. Deuxi\u00e8mement, nous avons mis au point une technologie avanc\u00e9e appel\u00e9e puces d\u2019ADN qui nous permet de mesurer quels g\u00e8nes des plantes sont actifs dans de diverses conditions de croissance. Troisi\u00e8mement, nous avons fourni des ordinateurs \u00e0 haut rendement et des logiciels sp\u00e9cifiques qui nous permettent de d\u00e9poser et d\u2019analyser nos r\u00e9sultats g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques.
