Les for\u00eats, qui occupent presque 35 % de notre masse continentale, repr\u00e9sentent une \u00e9norme ressource renouvelable importante pour les loisirs, l\u2019environnement et l\u2019\u00e9conomie. Les for\u00eats repr\u00e9sentent environ 30 milliards de dollars par ann\u00e9e pour le Canada\u037e environ 10 % de tous les emplois au Canada sont reli\u00e9s \u00e0 la foresterie. Nous contribuons \u00e0 la sant\u00e9 des for\u00eats canadiennes en nous servant de la g\u00e9nomique pour \u00e9tudier l\u2019un des ravageurs les plus d\u00e9vastateurs des for\u00eats, la tordeuse des bourgeons de l\u2019\u00e9pinette. L\u2019objectif est de mettre au point des agents de lutte biologique s\u00fbrs sur le plan environnemental \u2013 des virus et des bact\u00e9ries qui peuvent limiter les infestations de la tordeuse des bourgeons de l\u2019\u00e9pinette, sans nuire \u00e0 d\u2019autres organismes des for\u00eats ou aux humains.<\/p>\n<p>Nous avons men\u00e9 des \u00e9tudes en g\u00e9nomique sur la tordeuse des bourgeons de l\u2019\u00e9pinette et de ses virus, de m\u00eame que sur le fondement mol\u00e9culaire de leurs interactions. Dans le cadre de ces \u00e9tudes, nous avons \u00e9labor\u00e9 un vaste corpus de connaissances sur la g\u00e9nomique de la tordeuse des bourgeons d\u2019\u00e9pinette et un grand nombre de ses virus naturels\u037e des m\u00e9thodes \u00e9cologiques qui font appel aux virus de l\u2019insecte pour le supprimer un moyen de produire de grandes quantit\u00e9s de prot\u00e9ines virales qui peuvent servir \u00e0 mettre au point d\u2019autres produits dans l\u2019industrie pharmaceutique, les organismes v\u00e9t\u00e9rinaires et agricoles. Dans nos travaux sur la tordeuse des bourgeons de l\u2019\u00e9pinette, nous avons produit un grand ensemble de mol\u00e9cules d\u2019ADN qui nous a permis d\u2019\u00e9tudier les g\u00e8nes de la tordeuse des bourgeons de l\u2019\u00e9pinette qui influencent la mue, le d\u00e9veloppement et la r\u00e9sistance aux virus.<\/p>\n<p>Nous avons mis au point un moyen efficace de fabriquer des prot\u00e9ines en \u00e9prouvette. En ce qui concerne les virus qui infectent la tordeuse des bourgeons de l\u2019\u00e9pinette, nous avons d\u00e9termin\u00e9 toute la s\u00e9quence de la plupart des g\u00e8nes importants. Ces renseignements constituent la base d\u2019autres caract\u00e9risations g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques des virus, la cr\u00e9ation de mutations g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques des virus et des \u00e9tudes de l\u2019expression des g\u00e8nes viraux.
