M\u00eame si dans la plupart des cellules, un ensemble de bases des g\u00e8nes est actif, dans les cellules sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9es comme celles des muscles, des nerfs et de la peau, d\u2019autres g\u00e8nes sp\u00e9cifiques des cellules ou des tissus sont activ\u00e9s de mani\u00e8re s\u00e9lective. Le contr\u00f4le ou la \u00ab r\u00e9gulation \u00bb de ces g\u00e8nes est au c\u0153ur des m\u00e9canismes sousjacents des cancers et des maladies d\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e9ratives.<\/p>\n<p>Notre programme a port\u00e9 sur un objectif cl\u00e9 de la recherche en biologie : la compr\u00e9hension des m\u00e9canismes cellulaires qui activent ou d\u00e9sactivent des g\u00e8nes mammaliens. Par suite de ce projet, la Colombie-Britannique et le BC Cancer Agency (BCCA) accueillent l\u2019un des meilleurs syst\u00e8mes et l\u2019une des \u00e9quipes d\u2019avant-garde du monde pour la pr\u00e9diction des \u00e9l\u00e9ments r\u00e9gulateurs chez les mammif\u00e8res, \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle g\u00e9nomique. Les connaissances obtenues gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 notre projet font na\u00eetre des id\u00e9es \u00e0 partir desquelles de nouveaux produits th\u00e9rapeutiques et de nouveaux diagnostics peuvent \u00eatre mis au point pour traiter des maladies.<\/p>\n<p>Plus pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment, nous avons d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 un pipeline et une base de donn\u00e9es en bioinformatique qui renseignent sur les \u00e9l\u00e9ments g\u00e9nomiques susceptibles de contr\u00f4ler la r\u00e9gulation des g\u00e8nes. Ces mises au point procurent une ressource puissante aux chercheurs de la Colombie-Britannique, du Canada et d\u2019ailleurs dans le monde qui leur permet d\u2019acc\u00e9l\u00e9rer leurs propres travaux et de tirer un meilleur profit de leurs propres fonds de recherche.<\/p>\n<p>Par les activit\u00e9s du projet, le Genome Sciences Centre (GSC) du BCCA a acquis des comp\u00e9tences sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9es dans des logiciels d\u2019exploitation novateurs, de m\u00eame que dans les calculs \u00e0 grande \u00e9chelle. Nous avons octroy\u00e9 des licences pour certains de ces logiciels novateurs mis au point par les chercheurs du projet \u00e0 une nouvelle soci\u00e9t\u00e9 canadienne en d\u00e9marrage en bioinformatique, Upstream Biosciences, qui a utilis\u00e9 des locaux incubateurs au GSC. Nos travaux contribuent \u00e0 la compr\u00e9hension des m\u00e9canismes sous-jacents de maladies telles que le cancer, le diab\u00e8te, les maladies du foie, les cardiopathies cong\u00e9nitales, et des effets ind\u00e9sirables des m\u00e9dicaments.
