Ces champignons sont devenus des menaces graves de la sant\u00e9 humaine au cours des derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es parce qu\u2019ils peuvent causer des infections virtuellement mortelles chez les personnes dont le syst\u00e8me immunitaire est compromis et parce que ces infections fongiques sont difficiles \u00e0 traiter enti\u00e8rement avec les m\u00e9dicaments actuels.<\/p>\n<p>Pour trouver de nouvelles m\u00e9thodes th\u00e9rapeutiques, il faut le plus rapidement possible comprendre en profondeur l\u2019esp\u00e8ce <em>Cryptococcus<\/em>, agent pathog\u00e8ne chez les humains. Si l\u2019on comprend pourquoi ces champignons peuvent rendre malade, on pourra \u00e9galement mettre au point de meilleures strat\u00e9gies g\u00e9n\u00e9rales de lutte contre des maladies graves caus\u00e9es par d\u2019autres champignons.<\/p>\n<p>La s\u00e9quence produite par notre projet \u2013 WM276 \u2013 fournit une ressource indispensable aux chercheurs qui s\u2019efforcent de lutter contre les maladies fongiques. Nous pensons que cette s\u00e9quence fournira d\u2019importantes nouvelles connaissances comparatives et am\u00e9liorera grandement la qualit\u00e9 g\u00e9n\u00e9rale de tous les projets sur le g\u00e9nome de cet agent pathog\u00e8ne. De plus, \u00e9tant donn\u00e9 que les s\u00e9rotypes A et D sont plus souvent \u00e9tudi\u00e9s, notre choix du s\u00e9rotype B a fait du Canada un chef de file dans les \u00e9tudes de cet agent pathog\u00e8ne fongique. Notre collaborateur, le Broad Institute, a effectu\u00e9 la s\u00e9quence partielle d\u2019une autre souche de s\u00e9rotype B, R265.<\/p>\n<p>Ensemble, les souches WM276 et R265 repr\u00e9sentent les types de souches de s\u00e9rotype B qui causent la plus grande flamb\u00e9e \u00e9pid\u00e9mique au monde de <em>cryptococcose<\/em> dans l\u2019\u00cele de Vancouver, en Colombie\u00ad-Britannique. Les s\u00e9quences connexes du g\u00e9nome repr\u00e9sentent donc une ressource indispensable pour la mise au point d\u2019outils diagnostiques qui permettront d\u2019identifier des cibles de vaccin, et de mettre \u00e0 l\u2019essai des cibles de m\u00e9dicaments antifongiques.
