Les troubles li\u00e9s \u00e0 la surcharge en fer, dont l\u2019h\u00e9mochromatose h\u00e9r\u00e9ditaire (HH) et les surcharges en fer caus\u00e9es par les transfusions, par exemple la thalass\u00e9mie, sont des causes connues d\u2019une morbidit\u00e9 et d\u2019une mortalit\u00e9 importantes. L\u2019h\u00e9mochromatose h\u00e9r\u00e9ditaire entra\u00eene la d\u00e9faillance d\u2019organes et des probl\u00e8mes secondaires comme le diab\u00e8te, la cirrhose du foie, les cardiopathies, l\u2019arthrite et la d\u00e9pression. Le projet vise principalement \u00e0 mettre au point des m\u00e9thodes cliniques novatrices qui transformeront les modes de traitement des troubles du m\u00e9tabolisme du fer.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab Le projet offre la possibilit\u00e9 de traiter et de pr\u00e9venir d\u2019importantes maladies chroniques, d\u00e9clare le Dr Goldberg. Nous voulons mettre au point de meilleurs tests de diagnostic et de d\u00e9pistage et de meilleures th\u00e9rapies qui influenceront profond\u00e9ment le traitement des patients atteints de troubles li\u00e9s \u00e0 la surcharge en fer. Les m\u00e9decins pourraient pr\u00e9voir d\u00e8s le d\u00e9but les surcharges en fer et en pr\u00e9venir les dommages. \u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Le groupe d\u2019experts \u00e9tudie trois principaux domaines de la recherche sur le m\u00e9tabolisme du fer : Identification de nouveaux g\u00e8nes pour mieux d\u00e9finir le r\u00f4le du fer dans la pathogen\u00e8se de la maladie : une recherche \u00e0 grande \u00e9chelle en g\u00e9nomique d\u00e9finira de nouveaux g\u00e8nes li\u00e9s au m\u00e9tabolisme du fer pour expliquer leur r\u00f4le dans la progression de la maladie. Mise au point de tests cliniques de diagnostic des maladies li\u00e9es \u00e0 la surcharge en fer. Les nouveaux g\u00e8nes seront utilis\u00e9s pour comprendre les liens biologiques entre diff\u00e9rents g\u00e8nes et diff\u00e9rentes prot\u00e9ines du fer, et identifier des marqueurs g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques qui permettront de mieux pr\u00e9dire la gravit\u00e9 et l\u2019issue de la surcharge en fer chez un patient. Ces tests de diagnostic am\u00e9lioreront la sensibilisation et le d\u00e9pistage aupr\u00e8s des familles et des individus \u00e0 risque. Ils permettront en outre aux m\u00e9decins de traiter chacun de leurs patients par un traitement personnalis\u00e9. Mise au point d\u2019un m\u00e9dicament administr\u00e9 par voie orale pour r\u00e9duire la surcharge en fer dans l\u2019organisme : Xenon met au point un m\u00e9dicament administr\u00e9 par voie orale qui r\u00e9duira v\u00e9ritablement la surcharge en fer dans l\u2019organisme et en pr\u00e9viendra les dommages. Le m\u00e9dicament de Xenon am\u00e9liorera la gestion clinique des patients atteints de troubles li\u00e9s \u00e0 la surcharge en fer. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 une sensibilisation et \u00e0 une information accrues, par le biais d\u2019associations comme l&rsquo;American Hemochromatosis Society et la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 canadienne de l\u2019h\u00e9mochromatose, et gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 de meilleures solutions de d\u00e9pistage et de traitement, le projet Applications g\u00e9nomiques novatrices visant la mise au point de biomarqueurs cliniques et de nouvelles th\u00e9rapies pour les troubles courants du m\u00e9tabolisme du fer contribuera \u00e0 faire du Canada un chef de file international dans la d\u00e9tection et le traitement de ces maladies g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques courantes.
