Les for\u00eats de seconde venue ne sont jamais aussi productives ou n\u2019ont jamais autant de valeur que les for\u00eats anciennes, produisant un volume moindre et un bois moins durable pour les produits de bois ext\u00e9rieurs.<\/p>\n<p>Les strat\u00e9gies actuelles de s\u00e9lection en ce qui concerne les thuyas g\u00e9ants peuvent prendre des d\u00e9cennies \u00e0 produire les caract\u00e9ristiques souhait\u00e9es. Joerg Bohlmann, Ph.\u00a0D., de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de la Colombie-Britannique, travaille en partenariat avec John Russell du minist\u00e8re des For\u00eats, des Terres et de l\u2019Exploitation des ressources naturelles de la Colombie-Britannique, afin d\u2019appliquer la s\u00e9lection g\u00e9nomique pour r\u00e9duire la p\u00e9riode de croissance de 30\u00a0ans environ.
