En salmoniculture, il n\u2019est pas rare que le poisson soit infect\u00e9 par divers agents pathog\u00e8nes, dont les poux du poisson, des bact\u00e9ries et des virus. Ces infections peuvent causer de lourdes pertes \u00e9conomiques aux aquaculteurs et au secteur dans son ensemble.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019\u00e9quipe scientifique, dirig\u00e9e par Matthew Rise, Ph.\u00a0D., de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Memorial de Terre-Neuve, Richard Taylor, Ph.\u00a0D., du Cargill Innovation Centre, et Mark Fast, Ph.\u00a0D., de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de l\u2019\u00cele-du-Prince-\u00c9douard, utilise les outils de la g\u00e9nomique fonctionnelle pour identifier des biomarqueurs de co-infection (c.-\u00e0-d. des g\u00e8nes qui r\u00e9agissent \u00e0 cette derni\u00e8re). EWOS\/Cargill Innovation Centre utilisera ces donn\u00e9es pour mettre au point des r\u00e9gimes th\u00e9rapeutiques qui r\u00e9duiront la maladie et la mortalit\u00e9 chez les saumons en raison des co-infections. Le projet fait fond sur des travaux r\u00e9alis\u00e9s pr\u00e9c\u00e9demment par les partenaires sur des agents pathog\u00e8nes individuels et financ\u00e9s par le Programme de partenariats pour les applications de la g\u00e9nomique de G\u00e9nome Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Le syst\u00e8me int\u00e9gr\u00e9 de gestion des agents pathog\u00e8nes produit par ces travaux de recherche profitera \u00e0 toute la salmoniculture canadienne. Son adoption et son application pourraient r\u00e9duire les pertes engendr\u00e9es par les co-infections de quelque 20\u00a0% en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral et de 50\u00a0% dans le cas de certaines maladies. Ces changements pourraient faire r\u00e9aliser des \u00e9conomies pouvant atteindre 57\u00a0millions de dollars par ann\u00e9e pour l\u2019industrie canadienne de l\u2019aquaculture.
