Malheureusement, cette m\u00e9thode n&rsquo;est pas bien adapt\u00e9e aux changements climatiques \u00e0 venir, car les arbres locaux s&rsquo;adapteront mal \u00e0 un environnement changeant qui comprend non seulement des temp\u00e9ratures plus \u00e9lev\u00e9es, mais de nouvelles maladies et de nouveaux insectes ravageurs. De plus, les changements climatiques ne nuisent pas qu&rsquo;aux arbres. Ils nuisent \u00e9galement aux avantages \u00e9conomiques et environnementaux que les arbres procurent au Canada, notamment le bois, les emplois, la protection de l&rsquo;habitat et le stockage du carbone.<\/p>\n<p>Les am\u00e9nagistes forestiers disposent de trois&nbsp;options pour s&rsquo;attaquer \u00e0 ce probl\u00e8me&nbsp;: recueillir les semences d&rsquo;une m\u00eame essence mieux adapt\u00e9es aux climats plus chauds, semer plus au nord et \u00e0 des altitudes plus \u00e9lev\u00e9es ou s\u00e9lectionner et am\u00e9liorer les arbres qui peuvent r\u00e9sister aux contraintes climatiques et aux maladies. Toutes ces strat\u00e9gies peuvent \u00eatre efficaces, mais seulement si elles permettent de produire des arbres pouvant mieux r\u00e9sister aux changements climatiques et aux impacts de ces changements.<\/p>\n<p>Sally&nbsp;Aitken, de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de la Colombie-Britannique, Samuel Yeaman de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Calgary et Richard Hamelin de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Laval, dirigeront une \u00e9quipe qui utiliseront des outils g\u00e9nomiques pour \u00e9laborer ces trois options en mettant \u00e0 l&rsquo;essai la capacit\u00e9 des arbres de diff\u00e9rentes populations \u00e0 r\u00e9sister \u00e0 la chaleur, au froid, \u00e0 la s\u00e9cheresse et aux maladies. L&rsquo;objectif du projet consiste \u00e0 \u00e9laborer de meilleures options de reboisement pour les essences \u00e0 fort rapport \u00e9conomique comme le sapin de douglas et le pin tordu, ainsi que le m\u00e9l\u00e8ze occidental et le pin gris. Les travaux de son \u00e9quipe fourniront des recommandations en mati\u00e8re de politique et de reboisement pour appuyer les g\u00e9n\u00e9ticiens forestiers et les am\u00e9nagistes forestiers dans le cadre de la s\u00e9lection et de la plantation d&rsquo;arbres en sant\u00e9 dans les nouveaux climats de l&rsquo;ouest du Canada. Les travaux de l&rsquo;\u00e9quipe entra\u00eeneront une augmentation du rendement en bois pouvant atteindre 30&nbsp;%, accompagn\u00e9e de r\u00e9percussions proportionnelles sur l&rsquo;\u00e9conomie et l&#8217;emploi, et prot\u00e9geront les avantages \u00e9cologiques et environnementaux de nos for\u00eats.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The GE<sup>3<\/sup>LS research component of the project will identify current barriers to the uptake of genomic and non-genomic adaptation strategies, and apply novel approaches for stakeholder engagement to develop decision tools and recommendations to&nbsp;enhance the current adaptation policy environment.
