La gestion des produits chimiques rel\u00e8ve de la responsabilit\u00e9 des organismes de r\u00e9glementation et des entreprises; cependant, en raison du tr\u00e8s grand nombre de produits \u00e0 \u00e9valuer \u2013 soit plus de 100&nbsp;000&nbsp;\u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9chelle mondiale, dont 4&nbsp;300 ont \u00e9t\u00e9 jug\u00e9s prioritaires dans le cadre du Plan de gestion des produits chimiques du Canada&nbsp;\u2013 les co\u00fbts pour \u00e9valuer les risques associ\u00e9s \u00e0 chaque produit deviennent prohibitifs et le temps n\u00e9cessaire pour ce faire augmente de mani\u00e8re d\u00e9mesur\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<p>Niladri&nbsp;Basu de l&rsquo;Universit\u00e9 McGill, Markus Hecker de l&rsquo;Universit\u00e9 de la Saskatchewan et Doug Crump d&rsquo;Environnement et Changement climatique Canada dirigent une \u00e9quipe qui travaille \u00e0 la mise au point, aux essais, \u00e0 la validation et \u00e0 la commercialisation de EcoToxChip. EcoToxChip deviendra un outil bas\u00e9 sur la PCR (ou r\u00e9action en cha\u00eene de la polym\u00e9rase&nbsp;\u2013 une m\u00e9thode d&rsquo;amplification qui permet de produire des milliers de copies d&rsquo;un petit fragment d&rsquo;ADN), valid\u00e9 \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9chelle internationale, ayant pour but de dissiper les grandes incertitudes associ\u00e9es aux m\u00e9thodes actuelles d&rsquo;\u00e9valuation du risque. EcoToxChip procurera \u00e0 la communaut\u00e9 mondiale une plateforme d&rsquo;analyse toxicologique de pointe, qui sera accessible, abordable et fiable, et qui permettra d&rsquo;obtenir des r\u00e9sultats coh\u00e9rents. Afin de favoriser l&rsquo;adoption de cet outil, un portail de bio-informatique facile \u00e0 utiliser (EcoToxXplorer.ca) sera mis en place dans le cadre du projet, un guide technique valid\u00e9 sera pr\u00e9par\u00e9 \u00e0 l&rsquo;intention des utilisateurs et les connaissances en sciences sociales sur le concept d&rsquo;entrepreneuriat institutionnel seront mises \u00e0 profit.<\/p>\n<p>EcoToxChip favorisera un usage plus cibl\u00e9 des essais sur les animaux, en plus d&rsquo;am\u00e9liorer la prise de d\u00e9cisions r\u00e9glementaires et de g\u00e9n\u00e9rer des \u00e9conomies de co\u00fbts pour les utilisateurs. Dans le cadre par exemple du Plan de gestion des produits chimiques du gouvernement du Canada, l&rsquo;utilisation de EcoToxChip pourrait permettre de r\u00e9aliser des \u00e9conomies de 27,3&nbsp;millions de dollars par ann\u00e9e, d&rsquo;accro\u00eetre de sept fois la rapidit\u00e9 des essais et de r\u00e9duire de 90&nbsp;% le nombre d&rsquo;animaux utilis\u00e9s pour les essais. Ce projet r\u00e9unit des utilisateurs et des intervenants cl\u00e9s du Canada et du monde entier, ainsi que des scientifiques de renomm\u00e9e internationale, afin d&rsquo;assurer l&rsquo;adoption rapide de cette technologie.
