Toutefois, des esp\u00e8ces exotiques envahissantes comme le longicorne asiatique, la maladie hollandaise de l\u2019orme, l&rsquo;encre des ch\u00eanes rouges et la spongieuse rose menacent nos for\u00eats. Elles causent des dommages \u00e9ventuellement irr\u00e9versibles aux environnements naturels et urbains et entra\u00eenent des co\u00fbts estim\u00e9s \u00e0 800&nbsp;millions de dollars par ann\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<p>La plupart de ces menaces ne sont pas indig\u00e8nes au Canada, mais arrivent par l&rsquo;interm\u00e9diaire du parcours des biens import\u00e9s. La meilleure mani\u00e8re de les combattre consiste \u00e0 les d\u00e9tecter d\u00e8s que possible gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la biosurveillance, pour \u00eatre en mesure de les \u00e9liminer avant qu&rsquo;elles s&rsquo;\u00e9tablissent. Richard Hamelin de l&rsquo;Universit\u00e9 de la Colombie-Britannique, Cameron&nbsp;Duff de l\u2019Agence canadienne d&rsquo;inspection des aliments et Ilga&nbsp;Porth de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Laval exploitent le pouvoir du s\u00e9quen\u00e7age du g\u00e9nome et de l&rsquo;analyse bio-informatique pour \u00e9laborer un nouvel ensemble d&rsquo;outils permettant de d\u00e9tecter de mani\u00e8re pr\u00e9cise ces quatre ennemis nuisibles de la for\u00eat.
