M\u00eame si elles sont petites, ces modifications jouent toutes un r\u00f4le essentiel dans l\u2019activation ou la d\u00e9sactivation des prot\u00e9ines, ou refont enti\u00e8rement les liens dans leurs r\u00e9seaux d\u2019interaction. Il est tr\u00e8s difficile d\u2019analyser les modifications comme le m\u00e9thyle parce qu\u2019elles sont subtiles sur le plan chimique et surviennent en quantit\u00e9s infimes. De m\u00eame, les anticorps, m\u00eame s\u2019ils sont souples et puissants, sont par d\u00e9finition difficiles \u00e0 cerner lorsqu\u2019il s\u2019agit d\u2019effectuer une analyse globale de la modification du m\u00e9thyle. Partout dans le monde, les chercheurs et les centres d\u2019essai clinique n\u2019ont pas de m\u00e9thode g\u00e9n\u00e9rale, fiable et universellement accept\u00e9e pour effectuer cette analyse du m\u00e9thyle. Le march\u00e9 de la recherche et des diagnostics cibl\u00e9s du m\u00e9thyle cro\u00eet rapidement et se pr\u00eate \u00e0 l\u2019innovation de rupture.<\/p>\n<p>M.\u00a0Fraser Hof, Ph.\u00a0D., et son \u00e9quipe de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Victoria se sp\u00e9cialisent en chimie supramol\u00e9culaire, science qui consiste \u00e0 cr\u00e9er des \u00e9l\u00e9ments chimiques qui se lient de mani\u00e8re s\u00e9lective \u00e0 d\u2019autres mol\u00e9cules. L\u2019\u00e9quipe adaptera une famille de ces \u00e9l\u00e9ments chimiques pouvant se lier \u00e0 des prot\u00e9ines m\u00e9thyl\u00e9es. Par ces travaux de validation de principe, l\u2019\u00e9quipe d\u00e9montrera qu\u2019il est possible de r\u00e9aliser des agents poss\u00e9dant les s\u00e9lectivit\u00e9s requises et \u00e9tablira qu\u2019ils peuvent fonctionner dans les flux normaux d\u2019analyse des prot\u00e9ines (prot\u00e9omique). Ces types d\u2019agents chimiques sont fabriqu\u00e9s en lots purs hautement reproductibles, ce qui signifie que le rendement d\u2019un lot \u00e0 l\u2019autre et d\u2019un laboratoire \u00e0 l\u2019autre est intrins\u00e8quement sup\u00e9rieur \u00e0 celui des anticorps.
