Cette observation vaut tout particuli\u00e8rement dans le cas de deux types de cancer tr\u00e8s mortels, le m\u00e9dulloblastome, la tumeur c\u00e9r\u00e9brale maligne la plus courante chez les enfants, et l\u2019ad\u00e9nocarcinome pancr\u00e9atique, la quatri\u00e8me cause en importance de d\u00e9c\u00e8s attribuable au cancer dans la population canadienne. Presque la totalit\u00e9 des enfants qui meurent d\u2019un m\u00e9dulloblastome meurt en raison des m\u00e9tastases, car la tumeur primaire ne r\u00e9cidive presque jamais apr\u00e8s une th\u00e9rapie. Le cancer pancr\u00e9atique se propage tr\u00e8s t\u00f4t, sans aucun sympt\u00f4me, de sorte que de nombreux patients n\u2019en re\u00e7oivent pas le diagnostic avant que les m\u00e9tastases n\u2019aient commenc\u00e9. Pour cette raison, la chirurgie visant l\u2019ablation de la tumeur est rarement un rem\u00e8de, le cancer s\u2019est av\u00e9r\u00e9 assez r\u00e9sistant \u00e0 des th\u00e9rapies syst\u00e9miques et l\u2019utilisation de nouveaux agents cibl\u00e9s a eu peu d\u2019effets b\u00e9n\u00e9fiques.<\/p>\n<p>Les r\u00e9sultats r\u00e9cents du laboratoire du D<sup>r<\/sup>\u00a0Michael Taylor de l\u2019H\u00f4pital pour enfants malades de Toronto ont montr\u00e9 que la biologie des m\u00e9tastases est extr\u00eamement diff\u00e9rente de celle de la tumeur primaire. Il est donc peu probable que les traitements mis au point pour traiter la tumeur primaire aient des effets sur les m\u00e9tastases. En outre, plus de 95\u00a0% des syst\u00e8mes de mod\u00e9lisation actuels se concentrent sur la tumeur primaire, ce qui rend tr\u00e8s difficile l\u2019\u00e9tude du cancer m\u00e9tastatique. Le D<sup>r<\/sup>\u00a0Taylor s\u2019est associ\u00e9 au D<sup>r<\/sup>\u00a0Rama Khokha (Princess Margaret Cancer Centre) dans ce projet pour utiliser le criblage g\u00e9n\u00e9tique avanc\u00e9 des cellules humaines afin de mettre au point et de d\u00e9ployer des outils uniques pour la d\u00e9couverte des \u00e9l\u00e9ments qui provoquent les m\u00e9tastases.
