L\u2019Am\u00e9rique du Sud est l\u2019\u00e9picentre de l\u2019\u00e9pid\u00e9mie du virus Zika qui a actuellement cours, et 84\u00a0pays ont d\u00e9clar\u00e9 des cas d\u2019infection \u00e0 ZIKV li\u00e9s aux voyages. En date d\u2019avril\u00a02017, le Canada a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 486\u00a0cas li\u00e9s aux voyages, trois cas de l\u2019infection contract\u00e9e par voie sexuelle, et des infections chez 28\u00a0femmes enceintes et quatre nouveau-n\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p>Principalement propag\u00e9 par des moustiques, mais aussi par contact sexuel, le virus Zika cause une infection dont les r\u00e9percussions pendant la grossesse vont du d\u00e9veloppement normal du b\u00e9b\u00e9 \u00e0 la microc\u00e9phalie et \u00e0 des l\u00e9sions c\u00e9r\u00e9brales graves chez les f\u0153tus et les nouveau-n\u00e9s. Il n\u2019existe actuellement aucun vaccin ni produit th\u00e9rapeutique approuv\u00e9 pour lutter contre l\u2019infection.<\/p>\n<p>Uladzimir Karniychuk, Ph.\u00a0D. (VIDO-InterVac, Universit\u00e9 de la Saskatchewan), dirige une \u00e9quipe multidisciplinaire qui met au point un mod\u00e8le qui reproduit chez des porcs l\u2019infection \u00e0 ZIKV chez les humains. En collaboration avec l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Toronto, l\u2019\u00e9quipe de chercheurs utilise la g\u00e9nomique pour d\u00e9terminer les m\u00e9canismes biologiques qui engendrent la pathologie cr\u00e9\u00e9e par ZIKV pendant le d\u00e9veloppement du f\u0153tus et apr\u00e8s la naissance.<\/p>\n<p>Le projet fournit une m\u00e9thode unique et pratique \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tude des mani\u00e8res dont le ZIKV cause la maladie.
