Actuellement, il faut de deux \u00e0 quatre jours pour identifier l\u2019agent pathog\u00e8ne qui cause une infection et mesurer sa sensibilit\u00e9 aux antibiotiques. Ces d\u00e9lais d\u2019ex\u00e9cution contribuent \u00e0 des d\u00e9c\u00e8s \u00e9vitables. Un d\u00e9lai de 24\u00a0heures, par exemple, dans la d\u00e9tection de la b\u00eata-lactamase \u00e0 spectre \u00e9tendu (BSLE) qui produit <em>E.\u00a0coli<\/em> (une nouvelle menace au Canada), fait augmenter les taux de mortalit\u00e9 de cinq pour cent. Le d\u00e9pistage plus rapide de ces agents pathog\u00e8nes permettra d\u2019enrager ces infections dangereuses avant qu\u2019elles ne deviennent mortelles.<\/p>\n<p>Calgary Laboratory Services (CLS), au service de plus de 2,1\u00a0millions de personnes \u00e0 Calgary et dans la r\u00e9gion avoisinante, s\u2019associe \u00e0 Ian Lewis, Ph. D., de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Calgary, pour acc\u00e9l\u00e9rer la mise au point d\u2019un appareil de d\u00e9pistage qui peut reconna\u00eetre des agents pathog\u00e8nes des bact\u00e9ri\u00e9mies et d\u00e9terminer leur sensibilit\u00e9 au m\u00e9dicament en moins de six heures. Le nouvel appareil utilise une nouvelle technologie de la \u00ab\u00a0m\u00e9tabolomique\u00a0\u00bb pour identifier et caract\u00e9riser les agents pathog\u00e8nes. L\u2019\u00e9quipe du partenariat de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Calgary et de CLS a d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 un prototype qui peut effectuer le test normalis\u00e9 en moins de 24 heures et les appareils futurs le feront en une fraction de ce d\u00e9lai. Le projet re\u00e7oit l\u2019aide financi\u00e8re, entre autres, de Thermo Scientific, un \u00e9minent fabricant d\u2019instruments poss\u00e9dant un r\u00e9seau de distribution mondial. Le financement de G\u00e9nome Canada fera le pont pour perfectionner le prototype actuel et le transposer en milieu clinique.<\/p>\n<p>Une fois en service, l\u2019appareil r\u00e9duira de plus de 70\u00a0% les co\u00fbts de l\u2019analyse des bact\u00e9ri\u00e9mies et simplifiera la proc\u00e9dure de test.
