Cette m\u00eame ann\u00e9e, \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9chelle mondiale, plus de 63\u2009000\u00a0tonnes d&rsquo;antibiotiques ont \u00e9t\u00e9 utilis\u00e9es chez les animaux destin\u00e9s \u00e0 l&rsquo;alimentation, soit dix fois plus que chez l&rsquo;humain. L&rsquo;utilisation d&rsquo;antibiotiques dans le but d&rsquo;accro\u00eetre le rendement a \u00e9t\u00e9 critiqu\u00e9e aussi bien par la communaut\u00e9 scientifique que par les groupes de consommateurs. R\u00e9duire le recours aux antibiotiques chez les animaux d&rsquo;\u00e9levage pourrait freiner l&rsquo;apparition de microbes r\u00e9sistants aux m\u00e9dicaments.<\/p>\n<p>Adrian\u00a0Tsang et ses coll\u00e8gues de l&rsquo;Universit\u00e9 Concordia ont d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 l&rsquo;infrastructure et les connaissances n\u00e9cessaires pour soutenir la cr\u00e9ation de technologies faisant appel \u00e0 la g\u00e9nomique dans le but de r\u00e9duire l&rsquo;utilisation des antibiotiques. Il s&rsquo;est associ\u00e9 \u00e0 Elanco, troisi\u00e8me plus grande entreprise de sant\u00e9 animale au monde et chef de file du march\u00e9 des additifs antibiotiques pour l&rsquo;alimentation animale, afin de mettre au point des lysozymes (composants du syst\u00e8me immunitaire inn\u00e9 des animaux) en vue de les employer comme additifs alimentaires. Ces prot\u00e9ines naturelles, lorsque consomm\u00e9es par les animaux destin\u00e9s \u00e0 l&rsquo;alimentation, peuvent am\u00e9liorer la sant\u00e9 digestive et le rendement de ces derniers. Le P<sup>r<\/sup>\u00a0Tsang compte s&rsquo;appuyer sur la g\u00e9nomique pour mettre au point ces lysozymes. Leurs effets sur la sant\u00e9 digestive et le rendement des animaux de diverses esp\u00e8ces destin\u00e9es \u00e0 l&rsquo;alimentation seront ensuite \u00e9valu\u00e9s par Elanco, qui g\u00e9rera aussi les processus de fabrication et d&rsquo;approbation r\u00e9glementaire pr\u00e9alables \u00e0 la mise en march\u00e9 de ces aliments pour animaux enrichis de lysozymes.<\/p>\n<p>Ces aliments devraient permettre de r\u00e9duire l&rsquo;utilisation d&rsquo;antibiotiques dans les \u00e9levages d&rsquo;animaux destin\u00e9s \u00e0 l&rsquo;alimentation.
