C\u2019est le motif le plus courant d\u2019admission des enfants \u00e0 l\u2019h\u00f4pital et de leur absent\u00e9isme \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cole. Il s\u2019agit \u00e9galement d\u2019une maladie co\u00fbteuse, qui repr\u00e9sente plus de 2\u00a0milliards de dollars par ann\u00e9e au Canada. Les traitements peuvent g\u00e9rer les sympt\u00f4mes, mais il n\u2019y a pas de rem\u00e8des qui gu\u00e9rissent, seulement le l\u00e9ger espoir que les enfants \u00ab\u00a0finiront par la surmonter\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>Le D<sup>r<\/sup>\u00a0Stuart Turvey, son \u00e9quipe de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de la Colombie-Britannique et l\u2019\u00e9quipe de l\u2019\u00e9tude CHILD se concentrent sur le diagnostic pr\u00e9coce et la pr\u00e9vention, deux facteurs qui peuvent r\u00e9duire le fardeau personnel et \u00e9conomique de l\u2019asthme. Leur \u00e9chantillon de choix vient des couches souill\u00e9es\u00a0: en utilisant les technologies puissantes de la g\u00e9nomique pour analyser les selles, l\u2019\u00e9quipe peut pr\u00e9dire quel nouveau-n\u00e9 d\u00e9veloppera l\u2019asthme. Pourquoi? Les faits probants montrent que les b\u00e9b\u00e9s qui d\u00e9veloppent l\u2019asthme ont tendance \u00e0 ne pas avoir certains microbes cl\u00e9s dans leur intestin (ce qu\u2019on appelle le microbiome) pendant les premiers mois de leur vie.
