D., de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de la Colombie-Britannique, \u00e0 la mise au point d\u2019un nouvel anticorps th\u00e9rapeutique pour traiter la fibrose associ\u00e9e \u00e0 la dystrophie musculaire de Duchenne (DMD). Les chercheurs utiliseront les capacit\u00e9s de premier plan d\u2019AbCellera en la mati\u00e8re pour d\u00e9couvrir et d\u00e9velopper des anticorps \u00e0 usage th\u00e9rapeutique contre trois nouvelles cibles de la fibrose. Ces travaux de recherche s\u2019appuient sur de nouvelles connaissances scientifiques sur les cellules souches des groupes de MM.\u00a0Rossi et Underhill, acquises \u00e0 l\u2019aide d\u2019une combinaison d\u2019outils g\u00e9nomiques novateurs et de mod\u00e8les animaux uniques. Une demande de drogue nouvelle de recherche (DNR) pour un premier produit th\u00e9rapeutique sera d\u00e9pos\u00e9e \u00e0 la fin du projet. Deux autres produits \u00e0 base d\u2019anticorps seront avanc\u00e9s jusqu\u2019au point des \u00e9tudes permettant la pr\u00e9sentation d\u2019une demande de DNR, pour que la recherche aboutisse \u00e0 d\u2019\u00e9ventuelles th\u00e9rapies pour les patients.<\/p>\n<p>La dystrophie musculaire de Duchenne (DMD) est l\u2019une des maladies cong\u00e9nitales les plus courantes dans le monde\u00a0: elle touche un homme sur 3\u00a0500-6\u00a0000 (1 sur 3\u00a0500 au Canada). La DMD est caus\u00e9e par des mutations g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques de la dystrophine qui provoquent une d\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e9rescence progressive des muscles. Il n\u2019existe actuellement aucun traitement efficace de cette maladie. La fibrose contribue consid\u00e9rablement \u00e0 la progression de la DMD, soit l\u2019accumulation de tissu conjonctif dans les tissus musculaires, ce qui entra\u00eene la crispation et l\u2019affaiblissement progressifs des muscles. Des traitements efficaces qui pr\u00e9viendraient la fibrose seraient tr\u00e8s utiles aux patients atteints de la DMD, car ils ralentiraient la progression de la maladie et am\u00e9lioreraient leur qualit\u00e9 de vie. En plus de la DMD, les th\u00e9rapies antifibrotiques pourraient servir \u00e0 traiter d\u2019autres maladies qui s\u2019accompagnent d\u2019un lourd fardeau, entre autres les fibroses h\u00e9patiques, pulmonaires et cardiaques.<\/p>\n<p>En plus des nouvelles th\u00e9rapies cr\u00e9\u00e9es pour r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 un besoin m\u00e9dical non combl\u00e9, le projet favorisera la croissance \u00e9conomique du secteur canadien de la biotechnologie parce qu\u2019il attirera des investissements importants et de nouveaux partenariats. Le march\u00e9 accessible pour les nouvelles th\u00e9rapies \u00e0 base d\u2019anticorps de la DMD est \u00e9valu\u00e9 \u00e0 plus de 900\u00a0millions de dollars et l\u2019application \u00e9largie aux fibroses cr\u00e9e une possibilit\u00e9 de march\u00e9 combin\u00e9 de plus de 40\u00a0milliards de dollars.
