Par exemple, le troupeau de la<br \/>\nrivi\u00e8re George, qui regroupait plus de 800\u00a0000\u00a0b\u00eates au d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es\u00a01990, n\u2019en comptait plus que 8\u2009900\u00a0en 2016, un d\u00e9clin de pr\u00e8s de 99\u00a0%! Le minist\u00e8re des For\u00eats, de la Faune et des Parcs du Qu\u00e9bec (MFFP) a \u00e9labor\u00e9 plusieurs plans d\u2019action pour prot\u00e9ger les populations de caribous et veut maintenant y int\u00e9grer la g\u00e9nomique. Le recours \u00e0 des param\u00e8tres descriptifs pang\u00e9nomiques permettra de prendre de meilleures d\u00e9cisions en mati\u00e8re de gestion des troupeaux et d\u2019am\u00e9liorer l\u2019efficacit\u00e9 des mesures de protection. Pour ce faire, le minist\u00e8re travaillera avec une \u00e9quipe de recherche, dirig\u00e9e par les professeurs Claude\u00a0Robert et Steeve C\u00f4t\u00e9 de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Laval, pour mettre au point un outil g\u00e9nomique des plus n\u00e9cessaires.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019outil consistera en une biopuce de marqueurs SNP (pour <em>single nucleotide polymorphism<\/em>, ou polymorphisme mononucl\u00e9otidique) qui permettra d\u2019identifier des troupeaux particuliers \u00e0 l\u2019aide d\u2019un simple \u00e9chantillon de tissu, coupl\u00e9e \u00e0 un portail Web h\u00e9bergeant un registre des g\u00e9notypes du caribou et un pipeline d\u2019analyse de donn\u00e9es qui faciliteront la gestion du caribou au Qu\u00e9bec. Cet outil aidera les agents de protection de la faune et les biologistes du MFFP \u00e0 remplir leur mandat de prot\u00e9ger et de g\u00e9rer les populations de caribous menac\u00e9es et l\u2019habitat de cette esp\u00e8ce d\u2019une mani\u00e8re conforme aux principes du d\u00e9veloppement durable et fond\u00e9e sur les plus r\u00e9centes connaissances. Le caribou est une esp\u00e8ce embl\u00e9matique, non seulement au Qu\u00e9bec, mais aussi partout au Canada.
