Au-del\u00e0 des co\u00fbts personnels, le fardeau \u00e9conomique de la r\u00e9sistance aux m\u00e9dicaments est \u00e9lev\u00e9 et selon les estimations, il co\u00fbte plus de 1 milliard de dollars par ann\u00e9e en Am\u00e9rique du Nord seulement. Le d\u00e9pistage g\u00e9nomique des agents pathog\u00e8nes pour en d\u00e9terminer l\u2019identit\u00e9 et la sensibilit\u00e9 aux antibiotiques pourrait \u00eatre \u00e0 la fois plus pr\u00e9cis et efficace que d\u2019autres m\u00e9thodes de diagnostic des maladies infectieuses et de choix des traitements appropri\u00e9s. La difficult\u00e9 r\u00e9side toutefois dans deux domaines : l\u2019analyse du grand volume de donn\u00e9es produites par ce s\u00e9quen\u00e7age pour comprendre les facteurs g\u00e9nomiques qui sous-tendent la r\u00e9sistance aux m\u00e9dicaments et la cr\u00e9ation d\u2019un mod\u00e8le pr\u00e9cis de pr\u00e9diction de la r\u00e9sistance aux m\u00e9dicaments \u00e0 partir des donn\u00e9es de s\u00e9quen\u00e7age. Maxwell Libbrecht, Ph. D., et Leonid Chindelevitch, Ph. D., de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Simon Fraser et Jesse Shapiro, Ph. D., de l\u2019Universit\u00e9\u00a0McGill mettent au point des outils informatiques bas\u00e9s sur l\u2019apprentissage machine qui permettront de r\u00e9v\u00e9ler les relations complexes entre les s\u00e9quences des g\u00e9nomes bact\u00e9riens et la r\u00e9sistance aux antibiotiques, d\u2019apr\u00e8s les donn\u00e9es des g\u00e9nomes bact\u00e9riens qui existent d\u00e9j\u00e0 dans les banques de donn\u00e9es publiques et celles que poss\u00e8dent leurs collaborateurs. Le projet, qui fait suite \u00e0 deux projets financ\u00e9s dans le cadre du Concours 2015 en bio-informatique et en g\u00e9omatique, aboutira \u00e0 deux outils : un mod\u00e8le pr\u00e9dictif exhaustif de la r\u00e9sistance \u00e0 divers m\u00e9dicaments de bact\u00e9ries pr\u00e9cises, qui se mettra \u00e0 jour par lui-m\u00eame \u00e0 mesure que de nouvelles donn\u00e9es seront connues; et une interface Web conviviale qui permettra aux chercheurs, y compris les chercheurs en milieu clinique et en sant\u00e9 publique, de t\u00e9l\u00e9charger en toute s\u00e9curit\u00e9 et d\u2019analyser des donn\u00e9es g\u00e9nomiques de bact\u00e9ries pathog\u00e8nes et ainsi de pr\u00e9dire avec exactitude la r\u00e9sistance aux m\u00e9dicaments.
