En effet, en 2050, lorsqu\u2019on s\u2019attend \u00e0 ce que la population mondiale atteigne neuf milliards de personnes, la production agricole devra augmenter de 60 \u00e0 70 % pour nourrir tous ces humains. Comme la plupart des terres arables de la plan\u00e8te sont d\u00e9j\u00e0 en exploitation, la solution doit provenir de la hausse du rendement, tant des cultures que des animaux.<\/p>\n<p>Les plantes et les animaux font partie d\u2019un \u00e9cosyst\u00e8me complexe. Ils cohabitent en symbiose avec des communaut\u00e9s microbiennes, les \u00ab microbiomes \u00bb, qui vivent dans leurs organismes ou pr\u00e8s d\u2019eux et influent sur leur sant\u00e9 et leur croissance et, par cons\u00e9quent, leur productivit\u00e9 en tant que source alimentaire. \u00c0 l\u2019heure actuelle, les scientifiques utilisent la g\u00e9nomique et la m\u00e9tag\u00e9nomique pour \u00e9tudier ces microbiomes afin de mieux comprendre comment les interactions entre les microbiomes et leurs h\u00f4tes influent sur la sant\u00e9 et la croissance de ces derniers. Ces interactions se produisent par des \u00e9changes de compos\u00e9s chimiques, favoris\u00e9s par des prot\u00e9ines de transport qui permettent aux compos\u00e9s de traverser les membranes d\u2019une cellule.<\/p>\n<p>Gregory Butler, Ph. D., de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Concordia, met au point TooT Suite, une fa\u00e7on d\u2019annoter les prot\u00e9ines de transport membranaire dans un organisme, que ce soit une plante ou un animal, et dans un microbiome, fournissant ainsi des renseignements au sujet d\u2019interactions potentielles entre eux. TooT Suite sera un ensemble ouvert d\u2019outils bio-informatiques faciles \u00e0 utiliser qui aidera les chercheurs en g\u00e9nomique agricole \u00e0 mieux comprendre ces interactions. Ils fonctionneront \u00e0 partir de diff\u00e9rents syst\u00e8mes de classification existants, en pr\u00e9disant le terme le plus appropri\u00e9 pour une prot\u00e9ine dans chacun de ces syst\u00e8mes, palliant ainsi le manque d\u2019uniformit\u00e9.
