La mise au point de m\u00e9dicaments sur base d\u2019anticorps, par exemple Herceptin concernant le cancer du sein et Humira concernant l\u2019arthrite rhumato\u00efde, a modifi\u00e9 le monde des traitements et profond\u00e9ment influenc\u00e9 la survie des patients atteints de ces maladies. La r\u00e9ussite des anticorps est cependant limit\u00e9e par notre incapacit\u00e9 \u00e0 d\u00e9velopper et \u00e0 appliquer de nouveaux anticorps efficaces qui d\u00e9truiront les cellules cibles, en particulier en raison de la complexit\u00e9 des maladies comme le cancer.<\/p>\n<p>MM. Jason Moffat et Charles Boone, Ph. D., du Donnelly Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Toronto, ont invent\u00e9 AbSyn, une technologie de rupture qui allie l\u2019expertise dans la production des anticorps (Ab) et l\u2019\u00e9lucidation des r\u00e9seaux g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques pour produire des polyth\u00e9rapies ou des traitements synergiques (Syn) contre le cancer, gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 un financement ant\u00e9rieur de G\u00e9nome Canada. \u00c0 la premi\u00e8re phase du pr\u00e9sent concours, les chercheurs ont confirm\u00e9 le potentiel d\u2019AbSyn de devenir un solide pipeline de d\u00e9couverte de m\u00e9dicaments. Maintenant, \u00e0 la deuxi\u00e8me phase, les chercheurs ont pour objectif de promouvoir le perfectionnement d\u2019AbSyn pour en faire une plateforme int\u00e9ressante pour l\u2019industrie pharmaceutique. Avec l\u2019aide de Celgene, un chef de file mondial de l\u2019industrie des biopharmaceutiques, les chercheurs entreprendront un d\u00e9pistage \u00e0 grande \u00e9chelle visant \u00e0 d\u00e9montrer encore mieux le potentiel de la technologie AbSyn. Celle-ci sera, au bout du compte, int\u00e9gr\u00e9e \u00e0 Bridge Genomics, une entreprise canadienne en d\u00e9marrage, qui am\u00e9liorera ainsi sa mission de recherche d\u2019interactions propres \u00e0 la maladie qui peuvent devenir des cibles pour le d\u00e9veloppement de m\u00e9dicaments. <\/p>\n<p>AbSyn offre au Canada une possibilit\u00e9 d\u2019attirer des investissements en biotechnologie indispensables \u00e0 la cr\u00e9ation d\u2019un secteur biotechnologique dynamique en Ontario, d\u2019attirer et de maintenir en poste des chercheurs talentueux et tr\u00e8s qualifi\u00e9s, ce qui engendrera d\u2019importantes retomb\u00e9es \u00e9conomiques sur le double plan de la propri\u00e9t\u00e9 intellectuelle et des revenus.
