L\u2019abondance des ressources en poissons d\u2019eau douce est vitale pour de nombreuses communaut\u00e9s rurales, nordiques et autochtones et est au c\u0153ur de la vie sociale et culturelle de millions de Canadiens. Toutefois, les populations de poissons d\u2019eau douce sont menac\u00e9es. Elles doivent faire l\u2019objet d\u2019une surveillance et d\u2019une gestion fond\u00e9es sur la science. Les difficult\u00e9s logistiques li\u00e9es \u00e0 la surveillance des populations de poissons dans les quelque deux millions de lacs et les innombrables rivi\u00e8res du Canada sont amplifi\u00e9es par les limites des m\u00e9thodes d\u2019\u00e9chantillonnage classiques, qui n\u2019offrent qu\u2019une image instantan\u00e9e de la situation. Le projet utilisera des approches g\u00e9nomiques pour \u00e9laborer une trousse d\u2019outils pour l\u2019\u00e9tude du poisson fond\u00e9e sur l\u2019ADN environnemental provenant d\u2019\u00e9chantillons d\u2019eau ainsi qu\u2019une trousse d\u2019outils sur la sant\u00e9 du poisson, qui fournira des \u00e9valuations quantitatives de la sant\u00e9 du poisson et des facteurs de stress auxquels il fait face. Ensemble, ces trousses d\u2019outils permettront de r\u00e9aliser une \u00e9valuation exhaustive et pr\u00e9cise de l\u2019\u00e9tat des ressources canadiennes en poissons d\u2019eau douce et se traduiront par des \u00e9conomies de plusieurs millions de dollars en \u00e9tudes sur le poisson pour le gouvernement, les organisations non gouvernementales, les piscicultures et les consultants environnementaux. Les trousses permettront aussi des \u00e9conomies indirectes suppl\u00e9mentaires en appuyant des mesures de gestion plus efficaces et cibl\u00e9es.
