Les cultures de bl\u00e9 occupent la plus grande superficie de terres de toute autre culture commerciale. Il est d\u2019importance capitale d\u2019augmenter la production de bl\u00e9 au cours de 20 \u00e0 30 prochaines ann\u00e9es afin de r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 la demande alimentaire croissante. Le gain de rendement actuel (environ 0,67 % par ann\u00e9e) est impressionnant, mais ne suffira pas \u00e0 r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 la demande (1,6-1,8 %) d\u2019une population mondiale croissante; en outre, ce gain pourrait \u00eatre impossible \u00e0 maintenir en raison d\u2019un manque de nouvelle diversit\u00e9 g\u00e9n\u00e9tique. Le projet 4DWheat mettra en \u0153uvre les toutes derni\u00e8res strat\u00e9gies g\u00e9nomiques pour combler cette lacune en se concentrant sur deux principaux enjeux : augmenter le gain et g\u00e9rer le risque des producteurs li\u00e9 \u00e0 d\u2019importantes maladies. Le projet 4DWheat appliquera une g\u00e9nomique de pointe pour \u00ab exploiter la diversit\u00e9, faire progresser la domestication, favoriser la d\u00e9couverte et acc\u00e9l\u00e9rer la distribution \u00bb de nouvelles sources de variation g\u00e9n\u00e9tique. L\u2019utilisation d\u2019outils g\u00e9nomiques m\u00e8nera \u00e0 des strat\u00e9gies visant \u00e0 maximiser la diversit\u00e9 lors de la s\u00e9lection du bl\u00e9.
