En partenariat avec le Dr Jason Moffat, de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Toronto, et des collaborateurs de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 McMaster, Empirica a employ\u00e9 une technologie de criblage g\u00e9nomique et d\u00e9couvert que l\u2019antig\u00e8ne CD133 est une cible prometteuse pour assurer l\u2019efficacit\u00e9 du traitement par lymphocytes T porteurs de r\u00e9cepteurs antig\u00e9niques chim\u00e9riques (CAR-T), et ce, dans des mod\u00e8les in vitro et in vivo. L\u2019objectif global de ce projet et de concevoir et de valider des cellules CAR-T de prochaine g\u00e9n\u00e9ration ciblant l\u2019antig\u00e8ne CD133 qui sont g\u00e9n\u00e9tiquement con\u00e7ues pour \u00eatre produites \u00ab en s\u00e9rie \u00bb (et donc \u00e0 moindre co\u00fbt) et qui sont moins susceptibles \u00e0 la suppression immunitaire. Le GBM compte pour plus de 50 % des quelque 22 850 cas de cancer du cerveau et autres cancers neurologiques qui ont \u00e9t\u00e9 diagnostiqu\u00e9s en 2015. Le GBM est l\u2019un des cancers les plus agressifs, et les r\u00e9cidives sont in\u00e9vitables; le march\u00e9 mondial du GBM se chiffrait \u00e0 416,8 millions de dollars am\u00e9ricains en 2015 et on pr\u00e9voit qu\u2019il atteindra 1,15 milliard de dollars am\u00e9ricains d\u2019ici 2024, alors que la population mondiale augmente.
