De plus, il existe des incertitudes quant aux meilleures m\u00e9thodes \u00e0 employer pour nettoyer les d\u00e9versements dans les d\u00e9licats \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes d\u2019eau douce. L\u2019International Institute for Sustainable Development-Experimental Lakes Area (IISD-ELA) a lanc\u00e9 un vaste programme de collaboration multiphase qui vise \u00e0 : a) d\u00e9terminer l\u2019efficacit\u00e9 de m\u00e9thodes non m\u00e9caniques et biologiques pour le nettoyage des d\u00e9versements d\u2019hydrocarbures dans les environnements aquatiques d\u2019eau douce, et b) mettre au point des techniques de surveillance non l\u00e9tales et minimalement intrusives pour mesurer l\u2019exposition aux hydrocarbures et la r\u00e9cup\u00e9ration dans les populations fauniques aquatiques. Le projet FLOWTER s\u2019appuie sur ce programme pour i) optimiser les zones humides flottantes artificielles afin de stimuler le microbiome de la rhizosph\u00e8re associ\u00e9e dans le but de d\u00e9grader rapidement les hydrocarbures, et ii) valider l\u2019utilisation de la coupe de nageoires et des \u00e9couvillons de mucus en tant qu\u2019outils d\u2019\u00e9valuation biologiques non intrusifs pour surveiller l\u2019efficacit\u00e9 du nettoyage. On s\u2019attend \u00e0 ce qu\u2019un traitement et une surveillance plus efficaces des d\u00e9versements d\u2019hydrocarbure accroissent l\u2019acceptabilit\u00e9 sociale \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9gard de l\u2019infrastructure p\u00e9troli\u00e8re et favorisent les autorisations r\u00e9glementaires, ce qui pourrait accro\u00eetre le produit int\u00e9rieur brut (PIB) du Canada de 3,2 milliards de dollars.
