En effet, la valeur du march\u00e9 de d\u00e9tail du cannabis \u00e0 usage r\u00e9cr\u00e9atif devrait atteindre 8,7\u00a0milliards de dollars par an (Deloitte, 2016); cependant, la capacit\u00e9 de production actuelle ne permet pas de r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 la demande pr\u00e9vue. La production commerciale de cannabis \u00e9tant ill\u00e9gale et la production \u00e9tant en grande partie\u00a0artisanale et clandestine, le cannabis n\u2019a pas b\u00e9n\u00e9fici\u00e9 de l\u2019application des biotechnologies (en particulier de la g\u00e9nomique) qui ont permis d\u2019augmenter massivement les rendements et la durabilit\u00e9 d\u2019autres syst\u00e8mes de production agricole. Ce projet novateur, men\u00e9 en \u00e9troite collaboration avec OrganiGram Inc., repose sur la mise au point d\u2019une approche concert\u00e9e ax\u00e9e sur la recherche pour soutenir le d\u00e9veloppement et la croissance de l\u2019industrie du cannabis dans les provinces atlantiques canadiennes par l\u2019application et l\u2019adaptation de nouvelles biotechnologies. La recherche vise \u00e0 a)\u00a0am\u00e9liorer la productivit\u00e9 du cannabis par l\u2019inoculation d\u2019agents microbiens b\u00e9n\u00e9fiques cibl\u00e9s, b)\u00a0d\u00e9velopper des outils biotechnologiques visant le contr\u00f4le des pathog\u00e8nes du cannabis et la g\u00e9n\u00e9ration de nouvelles souches de cannabis aux caract\u00e9ristiques am\u00e9lior\u00e9es et c)\u00a0d\u00e9velopper des ressources g\u00e9nomiques permettant l\u2019identification des vari\u00e9t\u00e9s de cannabis.
