En collaboration avec le Fonds de d\u00e9veloppement pour l\u2019agriculture de la Saskatchewan et la Commission du d\u00e9veloppement du bl\u00e9 de la Saskatchewan, Genome Prairie a \u00e9tabli que l\u2019identification de nouvelles sources de r\u00e9sistance \u00e0 la fusariose de l\u2019\u00e9pi et le d\u00e9veloppement de germoplasme avec des g\u00e8nes de r\u00e9sistance empil\u00e9s repr\u00e9sentent une occasion strat\u00e9gique importante. Le bl\u00e9 de force roux de l\u2019Ouest canadien arrive au deuxi\u00e8me rang du bl\u00e9 cultiv\u00e9 au Canada. Quinze pour cent des terres est consacr\u00e9 \u00e0 sa culture, ce qui repr\u00e9sentait environ 6\u00a0millions d\u2019acres en 2016. La fusariose de l\u2019\u00e9pi est devenue tr\u00e8s r\u00e9pandue dans les r\u00e9gions  de l\u2019Ouest canadien o\u00f9 l\u2019on cultive le bl\u00e9 dur (Triticum turgidum L. ssp. durum). Les dommages caus\u00e9s par la fusariose de l\u2019\u00e9pi sont pr\u00e9judiciables car ils r\u00e9duisent le rendement et affectent la qualit\u00e9 des grains. Les pertes annuelles attribu\u00e9es \u00e0 la fusariose de l\u2019\u00e9pi pour les agriculteurs de la Saskatchewan atteignent des centaines de millions de dollars dans les ann\u00e9es d\u2019\u00e9pid\u00e9mie telles que celle de\u00a02016. Les techniques g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques modernes permettent de cartographier les g\u00e8nes de r\u00e9sistance sur les r\u00e9gions des chromosomes et de d\u00e9velopper des marqueurs \u00e9troitement associ\u00e9s. Les sources de r\u00e9sistance \u00e0 la fusariose de l\u2019\u00e9pi ont \u00e9t\u00e9 identifi\u00e9es par la s\u00e9lection de lign\u00e9es et de cultivars traditionnels de bl\u00e9 dur provenant de la banque de g\u00e8nes et de collaborateurs \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tranger. La cartographie de ces diverses sources de r\u00e9sistance et le d\u00e9veloppement de marqueurs facilitant le travail des s\u00e9lectionneurs permettront d\u2019empiler syst\u00e9matiquement les g\u00e8nes de r\u00e9sistance dans un contexte commun.
