Notre partenaire industriel, Ferrero\u00a0Canada, fabricant des produits Nutella et Ferrero\u00a0Rocher contenant des noisettes, est le troisi\u00e8me plus grand groupe de confiserie au monde, utilisant environ 40\u00a0% de l\u2019approvisionnement mondial actuel en noisettes. Depuis de nombreuses ann\u00e9es, Ferrero\u00a0Canada tente de s\u2019approvisionner en noisettes en Am\u00e9rique du Nord. Malheureusement, le manque de cultivars r\u00e9sistants au froid et adapt\u00e9s au climat ontarien a emp\u00each\u00e9 Ferrero d\u2019\u00e9tendre la culture domestique. Par exemple, les chatons (structures reproductrices m\u00e2les n\u00e9cessaires \u00e0 la nouaison) ont une courte dur\u00e9e de vie et sont sensibles au gel, ce qui rend le climat de l\u2019Ontario particuli\u00e8rement probl\u00e9matique. Les fluctuations entre le temps chaud et le temps froid au d\u00e9but du printemps peuvent \u00eatre tr\u00e8s dommageables pour les cultivars commerciaux de noisetier (Corylus avellana L.) que pr\u00e9f\u00e8re Ferrero. Ce projet fournira des solutions g\u00e9nomiques \u00ab\u00a0anti-stress\u00a0\u00bb \u00e0 base d\u2019amino-indoles pour att\u00e9nuer les effets des fluctuations climatiques sur les arbres cultiv\u00e9s en plein champ et am\u00e9liorer la productivit\u00e9, la durabilit\u00e9 et la rentabilit\u00e9 du secteur agroalimentaire de l\u2019Ontario. Nos strat\u00e9gies visant \u00e0 am\u00e9liorer la thermotol\u00e9rance des cultivars de noisetier recherch\u00e9s reposeront sur la capacit\u00e9 \u00e9prouv\u00e9e des amino-indoles \u00e0 att\u00e9nuer les facteurs de stress. Les amino-indoles sont de puissants r\u00e9gulateurs de croissance des plantes qui permettent aux arbres stress\u00e9s de survivre aux processus \u00e9nergivores que sont la floraison et la nouaison. Les amino-indoles sont produits dans toutes les formes de vie; il est donc possible d\u2019utiliser le r\u00e9seau microbien des racines pour renforcer encore les effets de ces mol\u00e9cules par l\u2019interm\u00e9diaire d\u2019interactions plantes-microbes. La thermotol\u00e9rance des cultivars de noisetier d\u00e9sirables peut \u00eatre am\u00e9lior\u00e9e en modifiant le m\u00e9tabolisme des amino-indoles par des strat\u00e9gies de gestion horticole (p.\u00a0ex. paillage ou engrais), ainsi que par une application directe de solutions d\u2019amino-indoles. L\u2019\u00e9lucidation des m\u00e9canismes m\u00e9taboliques des amino-indoles permettra de mettre au point des outils efficaces pour am\u00e9liorer la survie des arbres expos\u00e9s aux fluctuations de temp\u00e9rature couramment observ\u00e9es dans le sud de l\u2019Ontario. Le Gosling Research Institute for Plant Preservation (GRIPP), cr\u00e9\u00e9 dans le but de pr\u00e9server la biodiversit\u00e9 des plantes menac\u00e9es et importantes pour l\u2019agriculture gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 des programmes de recherche, d\u2019\u00e9ducation et de services, fournit des ressources, une expertise et un acc\u00e8s au germoplasme aux fins de commercialisation. Les cultivars pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9s de Ferrero provenant de la collection du GRIPP seront examin\u00e9s afin de confirmer la validit\u00e9 de notre principe selon lequel le d\u00e9ploiement de compos\u00e9s d\u2019amino-indoles dans divers organes v\u00e9g\u00e9taux combat les stress abiotiques et biotiques in vitro et sur le terrain. Cette recherche fournira une solution imm\u00e9diate et peu co\u00fbteuse aux producteurs pour la culture de masse de divers g\u00e9notypes de noisettes.
