Pour endiguer ce fl\u00e9au, il faut comprendre comment les esp\u00e8ces interagissent et r\u00e9agissent aux changements de leur environnement. Ce travail s&rsquo;av\u00e8re impossible \u00e0 r\u00e9aliser avec les m\u00e9thodes morphologiques traditionnelles. Le codage \u00e0 barres de l&rsquo;ADN, apparu il y a 15\u00a0ans, repr\u00e9sente un moyen rapide et pr\u00e9cis de distinguer les esp\u00e8ces selon la caract\u00e9risation de la s\u00e9quence de courts segments d&rsquo;ADN. Le Consortium international du code-barres de la vie, dirig\u00e9 par le Centre de g\u00e9nomique de la biodiversit\u00e9 de Guelph, regroupe des organismes de recherche de 40\u00a0pays qui partagent l&rsquo;objectif de r\u00e9pertorier toutes les esp\u00e8ces et d&rsquo;\u00e9tablir un syst\u00e8me mondial de biosurveillance avant le milieu du si\u00e8cle.<\/p>\n<p>Son programme de recherche actuel, BIOSCAN, exploite de nouvelles technologies pour rendre le codage \u00e0 barres de l&rsquo;ADN plus rapide et moins co\u00fbteux, des avanc\u00e9es qui \u00e9largiront son application. Il est important de noter que les technologies normalement utilis\u00e9es pour s\u00e9quencer des g\u00e9nomes entiers peuvent \u00eatre employ\u00e9es pour recueillir les codes-barres ADN de milliers de sp\u00e9cimens \u00e0 la fois. Le r\u00f4le crucial jou\u00e9 par BIOSCAN-Canada \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9chelle mondiale permettra d&rsquo;accro\u00eetre la rentabilit\u00e9 des syst\u00e8mes d&rsquo;identification par l&rsquo;ADN tout en fournissant de nouvelles donn\u00e9es sur la biodiversit\u00e9 qui int\u00e9ressent directement les Canadiens. Par exemple, de nouvelles esp\u00e8ces seront d\u00e9couvertes dans des r\u00e9gions sous-explor\u00e9es telles que l&rsquo;Arctique et les fonds marins au large de la Colombie-Britannique. Le codage \u00e0 barres de l&rsquo;ADN sera \u00e9galement utilis\u00e9 pour mettre en lumi\u00e8re les interactions entre les esp\u00e8ces, comme les fleurs butin\u00e9es par les abeilles, et pour suivre l&rsquo;\u00e9volution de la r\u00e9partition des esp\u00e8ces en r\u00e9ponse aux changements environnementaux \u00e0 des \u00e9chelles jusqu&rsquo;alors impossibles. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l&rsquo;engagement communautaire, BIOSCAN-Canada int\u00e9grera les modes de connaissance autochtones dans une m\u00e9thode de comptabilisation du \u00ab\u00a0capital naturel\u00a0\u00bb qui va au-del\u00e0 des mesures \u00e9conomiques conventionnelles comme le PIB.<\/p>\n<p>La combinaison des donn\u00e9es sur la biodiversit\u00e9 fond\u00e9es sur la g\u00e9nomique avec ce syst\u00e8me de comptabilit\u00e9 permettra de r\u00e9aliser des \u00e9valuations d&rsquo;impact environnemental et d&rsquo;\u00e9laborer des politiques efficaces et opportunes pour les secteurs forestier, minier et agricole, ainsi que pour la planification de la conservation.
